"Eat ze bugz" is not gonna fly over here. People will choose drugs and alcohol and an early grave. Plus, bugz aren't really that cheap once the parasitic class affixes some taxes and 10% for the big guy...

Yeah but in theory, if this were to happen, in order to buy a bottle of tequila, it would be required to pay for it in bundles of wheat, or baskets of vegetables or the equivalent of such in currency ~ a wheelbarrow full of federal reserve notes.

That's how markets work.

Depending on what kind of gardening you're doing, it should be able to produce a lot of or even most of what you need that you can grow in your zone.

Look into "square foot gardening" and at tower gardens (Greenstalk is the top name in that niche). You'd be amazed at how much food you can grow in a small space. There are people growing a good chunk of their produce on their apartment balconies. If you have a south facing space, even a small one, you can grow a lot.

If outside won't work, bring the garden inside and grow hydroponically.

This is an AeroGarden we have setup near the kitchen. It's basically fully automated - just add water and plant food when the app tells you to. This one's been setup for about six weeks, IIRC. I'm adding more plants to it every few weeks or so. It'll hold up to 24.

Spoiler

This is a developing project which is going ok, but not great. I'm tearing it down tonight as all the lettuce that survived has bolted. It's provided salads and whatnot for months, despite only really having six healthy plants. It's a ventilated 3x3 grow tent with a Greenstalk on a stand, and a nutrient solution reservoir underneath. There's a pump in the reservoir which fills the Greenstalk, and the lights and pump are all controlled through our home automation system. The grow medium is just a 60/40 perlite/coconut coir mix. Probably going to replace the Greenstalk with (9) 5 gallon grow bags and a drip system.

Spoiler

This is a NFT system that's under construction. Planning to have it growing lettuce through the winter outside, against the house where it's at in the pic.

Spoiler

Traditional gardening is just one of many options people have now for growing some of their own food. Different methods and technologies have really opened up a ton of possibilities for pretty much anyone to grow at least a little bit of what they need, even if it's just a few fresh herbs for the kitchen.

if the farmers in california are changing to tequila crops, which take less water, does that mean lake mead will go back to normal levels?

Are you really afraid we are going to die of starvation because of these farmers switching out crops?
Really?
Come on!

we will not starve we are the fattest nation on earth; a diet may actually be helpful. However our mental fitness is weaker than our physicality. We are a bunch of fat softies that will commit terrible acts of violence at the onset of the least of struggles. Look at our crime when the economy is "good".

Look. I don't like the way California is being governed at the moment. However, I see this post and I don't find any humor in it. Many farmers are doing what they can to stay in business. California is already dealing with a drought. When you're a farmer, you're at the mercy of the weather. Weather goes awry, it could kill your crop.
