House committee receives access to Trump's tax returns after yearslong fight

Neal, D-Mass., will surrender chairmanship of his committee to a Republican in January after the GOP won majority control of the House in the midterm elections.

He said the next step would be to have a meeting of the Democratic caucus. He wouldn't say whether the committee planned to release the tax documents publicly.

The committee had requested six years' worth of Trump's returns as part of an investigation into IRS audit practices of presidents and vice presidents.

Trump tax returns to be released by U.S. House panel on Friday

(Reuters) -Former Republican President Donald Trump's redacted tax returns will be made public on Friday, a spokesperson for the U.S. House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee said on Tuesday.

The Democratic-controlled committee obtained the returns last month as part of an investigation into Trump's taxes, after a lengthy court battle that ended with the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in the committee's favor.

I am about as anti-Trump as it gets, but how can his tax returns be made public without his consent? I know he promised to release them (He lied as usual) and other POTUS's have done it voluntarily, but I don't agree with this.

The Ways and Means Committee are allowed to vote on whether they can be released to the public or not.
