Analysis of a California database of sex offenders shows thousands of child molesters are being let out after just a few months, despite sentencing guidelines.
Current and former sex crime prosecutors said the figures are 'terrifying' and 'shameful'.
More than 7,000 sex offenders were convicted of 'lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age' but were let out of prison the same year they were incarcerated, data from the California Megan's Law database says.
Others who committed some of the worst child sex crimes on the statute books served similarly short sentences, including 365 pedophiles convicted of continuous sexual abuse of a child who spent less than 12 months in prison, 39 cases of sodomy with a child under 16, and three cases of kidnapping a child under 14 'with intent to commit lewd or lascivious acts', according to the data.
some here will have a bigger problem with the daily mail exposing this than they'll have with sentencing guidelines ignored/ pedophiles being let out early.
While there should be strong penalties, the cases they're citing go back to 2013 (or earlier?) and there is no comparison made to other states to show that other states don't also have proportionate things going on.
It seems like they're trying to take some one-off bad sentences (or reduced plea deals, we aren't told about like if they helped break up a whole ring) over a decade and present it as a new thing only in CA.

This is something the LA Times, or San Francisco papers should be exposing. Say what you want but the Daily Mail is frequently the first to break legit stories or give them the coverage they deserve.

England's "Daily Mail" likes to show the USA in a bad light and show their readers how messed up America is. We give them ample ammunition. Unlike CNN, their is so much going wrong in America, the Daily Mail doesn't have to lie or make up their stories. We have enough genuine insanity going on in the USA for the Daily Mail to find something pitiful or shocking every day.
It is a win-win. The English get their bash-America stories, and we get hard news that the US print and TV media want to hide and would never cover. I am surprised that Google has not yet banned the Daily Mail.
Like I've said before, the left loves every flavor of criminal. Just following the lead of our beloved POTUS.
I do feel sorry for these poor child victims though. There's a special place in hell for pedophiles.
