We are a different population than Singapore people. We are a country descended from those who left all their possessions behind, and struck out on boats risking all for freedom and a chance at prosperity, risk be damned. And then once we got here, after a generation or two we struck out into the dangerous of the westward ho movement in conestoga wagons, leaving all their possessions behind, again, risk be damned. Being willing to take on the native peoples that populated the otherwise unpopulated prairies.
We are also descendants of those native tribes, who ruled the prairies as nomads.
Those ancestors of us who came more recently, ALSO left all their possessions behind, got on planes or travelled here on boats, or foot, risk be damned, for a chance at prosperity and freedom.
So no. We're not a people where all of us will stack nicely into tall condos, and refrain from spitting. And sit with our hands folded nicely in our laps.
Read the history of Singapore, it is country of immigrants too.
The majority of the population is ethnic Chinese. Confucian philosophy influences the law and individual behavior there.
The crime stats for the Chinese American population are similar to Singapore.
Singapore citizens have many of the same rights as Americans.
Punishment doesn't have to be harsh; it just has to be sure.
If you know - for a fact - that if you park somewhere you're going to get a $50 ticket, few people will park there, and only those who are so desperate to park they're willing to pay 50 bucks.
See, that doesn't work here though. There's plenty of people who do things fully knowing they'll incur fines. They simply won't pay.
Punishment DOES have to be harsh for people to take laws seriously. Similar principles for raising kids.

The funniest instance of this is when the feds were fining Microsoft something like $1 million dollars a day, for whatever it was. Gates responded by saying it was just a cost of business because he was making much more off of whatever they were fining him for.
Now tell Gates they are going to arrest him bust his butt and throw him in a hole. I bet his tune changes right quick.
To make it that safe guns are a no go. It's that simple. There is not a single society that safe that allows citizens to carry guns anywhere they want anytime they like. There is gun control in Singapore so not sure why you don't think that is a thing. The thread didn't say harsher laws it is Singapore style laws.
It would go something like this. Some government assumed control theoretically and now rule like Singapore. Yes it is never going to happen. Out comes the proclamation you have until the end of the day to turn all weapons in or we are going to beat you until your butt is hamburger imprison you and take them by any force necessary. Singapore doesn't have this good guy with a gun notion going on over there.
Interesting. So, it seems to me like you are saying , in order to have a safer society, we have to give up some rights ? If so, let's start with "stop and frisk" right now. Are you good with that ?
Oh, and Singapore style laws, are harsher laws than ours, just saying.
This one is kind of funny. I do it all the time, although I do live on 2 acres. 5. WALKING AROUND YOUR HOUSE NAKED
Penalty: Up to 3 months in prison or $2,000 fine
While smoking and singing at home is fine, being naked is not. Pornography is illegal – and walking around naked in your house is considered a form of pornography in Singapore because it is a disturbance to your neighbours. https://meijiinternships.com/singapo...e-unique-laws/

What we are seeing in the cities reminds me of the classrooms of my youth when we had a really bad substitute teacher. Chaos, lack of discipline and just anarchy. Humans need discipline and leadership.

Most of the petty crime people consider "crime" is driven by material conditions. Address material conditions and you would eliminate most of that crime. This will never happen because maintaining ghettos of poor and violent people is the stick used to force people into employment, and has been for over 400 years.
This, but only for billionaires (the real criminals).
Sure, and everyone else is an angel, right?
