Aside from desires to avenge Saddam Hussein's attempted assassination of George Bush Sr., the George W. Bush administration invaded Iraq with the deliberate goal of overspending the U.S. Treasury, driving down the value of the dollar, causing speculation on the oil market and thus bringing oil prices sky high to benefit close associates.
I am not normally into conspiracy theories, but this one sounds quite plausible.

Inflation benefits debtors, and the US is the world's biggest debtor.
Savers of US dollars are just "collateral damage" in making the dollar worthless to wipe out our debts.
Which is why I'll likely be voting for Bob Barr come November.
