I think out of reading all of the posts from those on the left, the ones I find funniest are the ones who fail to understand this statement

To make this simple to those on the left to understand, here is the current process.
1) Those on the left make demands of the government to look into regulating or writing new laws to be harmful to industry x
2) Industry x decides that if the government is going to regulate them, that they should have some say so in how the laws are written
3) Industry x, decides to lobby the government by buying candidates campaigns that will write laws that are favorable to their company
4) Company Y, convinces Congress to write a law that gives company Y a benefit, but harmful to company Z
5) Company Z is closed down, making those on the left feeling satisified that they have accomplished their goal of shutting down company Z (even though it was company Y causing the problem)
6) Now company Y has less competition and raises their prices truly screwing the little guy.
This goes on all the time, and the more the government gets involved, the more we need to stop being surprised when the average consumer cant afford to buy the very same items that we were trying to make affordable.
The left is always looking to the government to solve temporary problems.
In the 1980's it was against the insurance industry, people stopped buying insurance,
In the 1990's it was against the oil companies, so now oil companies can raise their prices as much as they want/need to. There is no competition due to environmental regulations, and the oil companies have already bought their lobbiests. They also have made it so cost prohibited that its virtually impossible to start a new company and compete, thereby lowering prices.
The energy problems could be fixed within a few years if the government would truly open up and allow big business to invest in alternative energy plans. As an economist stated the other day, big business does not like to gamble. Who wants to invest $1,000,000,000 into some wind farm knowing that tomorrow, the federal government could declair wind farms bad and impose a penalty upon them because they kill birds (ok, they dont really kill birds, but when has Congress ever paid attention to facts?) and then start to subsidize solar.. No one will invest money here until they know that they are not going to be wasting billions due to regulations.

A few years?
Republicans have held the White House for 28 of the past 40 years. As I recall one of Reagan's first moves in 1981 was to tear down the solar array that Carter had installed on the White House roof. Then he cancelled the Carter tax credits for alternative energy. They've held congress for 12 of the past 14 years. They have a majority on the Supreme Court.
How much more time do you think they need to take some action other than giving subsidies and tax breaks to big oil?

I blamed GOVERNMENT (precisely Congress), I did not blame Democrats. Nice try at deflecting though.
p.s. I also said to get government OUT OF THE WAY, not for them to take action. We dont need tax credits, we need to make those that have the ability to invest, know that the government is not going to deem their investment null/void a week after they are done investing. This is why we have no nuclear power plants or hydro dams being built compared to Japan, which has 27 hydro dams in production.

Sorry this makes no sense it explains how things work with Big Government and people on left want to have more government in industry and everyones personal lives and income levels. You must be a kook Ron Paul supporter or something.
The government described by pghquest is properly called Fascism and is a combination of finance, industry and politics without any input from most of the citizens. This form of government picks the economic winners and losers for its own benefit.
We have been operating in this mode since WW2 but it has become more obvious and onerous since Regan’s collusions with the oil industry.

Hate to be the one to inform you that, but the number of lobbyists in this country exceed tens of thousands, all hired to write bills for special interest groups, i.e. the company that hires them.
This is how our current government works, and if you dont see it, you've got no experience dealing with the government..
Republicans have held the White House for 28 of the past 40 years.
With all the damage FDR did to America, the immorality of which required threatening the Supreme Court, it's not very realistic to expect things to change very quickly. More important than just having control of Congress is how many years was the majority great enough to over-ride vetoes and filibusters. (Both 60/100)
If the Reps had 59 and no one to cross over, then control of Congress doesn't mean as much as you might think.
Basically, I'm telling you that your number means absolutely nothing.

That's part of getting government out of businesses business. Please cite a source for it. I'd be interested to know if the Carter credits are as crooked and unreliable as I hear today's credits are. (Bob ********, R running for US Senate in CO explained a pretty stunningly corrupt system.)

It was one of the best posts I've seen on this forum on the subject. How do you think it works contrary to the post?

Business and free-marketers have effectively launched a legislative revolt against socialism. When socialists ease the pursuit of socialism, fascism will recede. That's how I see it.

p.s. Americans spend several billion a year in filing fees for lawsuits. Number of lawsuits last year was 15,000,000, and while some of them last weeks, others last 10 minutes (or never take place due to default judgments). If you would ever look at a county budget, you would recognize that the most courts are self sufficient.
Locally our county brought in $9,214,000 in fees + $3,993,000 in fines, and spent $12,682,500, so our court department is actually profitable ($524,500)
It's really hard not to laugh at you for apparently thinking I'd place any credence in figures just posted anywhere on the internet with no supporting information.

Well I'm still waiting for YOU to break your habit of commenting on what you think you read rather than what's actually there.
I NEVER said there is one lawsuit filed yearly, I merely used as an example the FACT that a $100 filing fee can hardly be ecpected to cover the actual cost of adjudicating a suit.
It seems you're too lazy to actually take the time to understand what you read.
