I have recently been involved in a thread about a young 10 year old being taught how to Bullfight. This led onto a discussion about children of 7 being taken hunting and killing deer by the age of 9. In the 21st Century can anyone give me a good reason why young Children should be taught and applauded for killing Animals.

Fishing and Hunting are popular activities in the United States. Teaching young people how to hunt and fish at young age does not "destroy" them as the OP would have you believe.

My children hunt and fish. My oldest got his first deer at the age of 9. Today, my sons are grown very fine men - with children of their own. And now we, as a family, go hunting and fishing frequently -

Hunters and fishermen are stewards of the lands - they actually are very important in the conservation movement.

IMO, the OP is opposed to guns in general - hence his opposition to hunting.

I can't really give a good reason for the teaching of gun use at such a young age, but instilling in your child useful survival knowledge is always a good thing. If your child is lost in the woods, more than likely he/she will not have a gun handy with which to kill food. But teaching a child how to find water, make a camp fire, find natural food he/she can eat without the use of weapons, make shelter, etc. is always a good idea. Any idiot with two hands and a shoulder can fire a gun. It takes real brains to know how to survive without one. And believe me, a child is never to young to start learning these rudimentary skills of survival. Think of it this way, though we here about it all the time, the chances of your child being kidnapped are very slim. And so are the chances your child will get lost on their own. We all teach our children about the dangers of strangers and what to do in a situation where they feel threatened. So on that note it would only seem fitting to instill some natural survival skills. But anyway, I have made my nature boy pitch and now I will simply say that no, I don't see any reason for a child that age to start hunting with a loaded weapon. Want to really teach them to hunt, give em a bow and arrow.

The OP is totally against hunting - killing animals. So, I don't think he/she will condone the Bow and Arrow either

"Stewards of the Land" You mean your family are employed to keep the animal population down? Some "well adjusted" people start by killing animals and then move on to humans. A FBI profiler said that when you look for multi killers you should look into their history and you will find that they started by first killing animals. I'm sure your children Greatday are well adjusted but there are some who are not. How do you tell the difference when teaching them as children how to kill?

Well, in a sense, YES. This what Hunting licenses, and things like deer tags are for. Weren't you aware of this? Evidently not -
