I agree fierce. Double standards is a human trait. The person who openly decries prostitution and think of prostitutes as the problem yet give hubby his jollies to get what they want, even though they can't stand him. The biggest problem with prostitution is some of the guys who go to prostitutes. Because prostitutes are looked at (unfairly) as trash, these guys feel that they can abuse them. Try abusing a working girl in a regulated brothel and you will be kicked out for being the perv. that you are. This "i think it's ok but NOT in my neighbourhood" reminds me of the morons who say this about colour or race. There are many married women who have sex with their husband and then go into the bathroom and cry because they feel degraded or abused, they do it to keep hubby happy or stop his aggression and this is their "pay off". A girl who openly accepts money for sex is doing nothing wrong. Who do we think we are that we can dictate that to get paid cash for sex is wrong but to covertly accept other "benefits" is ok. The girls should be protected and not thrown onto the street or on the corner to make the prostitution dangerous. As i said earlier it isn't the "working girls" who are the problem but these men who are Violent and who love to control. There are many men who go to prostitutes because either they have big issues meeting girls and feel comfortable with prostitutes or are not capable of getting a girlfriend, due to physical problems etc. A woman should be able to have sex for money if she so wishes. It is her choice not ours. A woman should also be able to feel safe and not treated as scum. I'd love a dollar for every woman who has sex with her husband and fantasizes that it is someone else to get through it just to keep the peace or keep her lifestyle, and the guy doesn't even realise that the sex is just a "business" transaction.. lol

Let me be ... "technical"

Prostitution is only legal is a few counties in Nevada - not throughout the entire state.

That said, the Brothels in these counties are well regulated - with the ladies receiving regular medical exams. Condoms are required. The Brothels do not put up with any customers who are rude or abusive to the ladies.

Many of the ladies who work the brothels are college students. They work the Summer or other longer break times, or the weekends to make money for school. There are no Pimps. No Drugs. Just sex.

It all seems to work out just fine.

OBTW: Mayor Oscar Goodman of Las Vegas proposed having a "Red Light" district in Las Vegas. He was QUICKLY shot down ...

meh.....I just wish more people would be serious about sex today.
Seeing something that was intended to be a beautiful experience between two people who care about each other; and making it out like a business transaction kinda disgusts me a bit.
But oh well.

So many "business transactions" happen every day in many, many marriages, without the husband even realising it. Too many people think that sex is going to be this fantastic out of body all engulfing beautiful mind changing experience that can only exist between two people who are "soul mates". To have a mutually exciting and loving sexual experience is amazing but this thinking of how wonderful it will be if we wait till marriage and only then..... Sooo many are disappointed and fumble their way through the first night with their new bride or groom. Case of the blind leading the blind. Nothing wrong with that. For many others sex is sex. To legalise prostitution will NOT stop the loving sex between two people but it will take away much of the problems associated with prostitution, which has come about because of the moralists who cannot get their heads around a woman's right to do whatever she wants with her own body.

prostitution: Definition and Much More from Answers.com

First the definition and use of the term.
Encyclopedia of Public Health: Prostitution
Prostitution is defined as "the act or practice of engaging in sexual activity for money or its equivalent" (Garner 1999, p. 1238). Except for parts of Nevada, it is a criminal act in the United States. Prostitutes are also referred to as commercial or public sex workers. It is estimated that over 92,000 men, women, and juveniles are arrested yearly for prostitution (FBI, 2000). The number of juveniles engaging in prostitution is estimated at between 100,000 and 300,000 per year.

To help narrow it down. We are only talking about adult prostitution I hope?

Absolutely. Sex with a minor is disgusting and not what we are talking about.

As many people said, prostitution is legal in America, in some counties in Nevada to be specific. If it were legalized throughout the country I believe many places would outright ban it. I'm sure conservative states like Oklahoma and Utah would ban it in their states.

Recently, in the Phoenix Metro area, there have been a number of young girls - 13 to 15 arrested for Prostitution.

Same is true with Las Vegas - several young women, under 18, are arrested each week on the Strip.

I'm not quite sure if prostitution is legal in my city, but it is certainly thriving, and these services are required to have business licenses...

I removed a link, but just google escorts victoria bc....There are dozens.
