I thought he swore on the bible to uphold the constitution, not the other way around.

Well that explains it then. The bible is a work of fantasy, and so it meant nothing that he swore on it.

Oh he'll swear on the Bible....then his oath will have no validity to him. Opens up a whole bunch of possibilities. Can you say Constitutional Convention

Oh please...the bible doesn't add any validity to anyone's oath.

Really? Well, there are people who do take their faith seriously. This is a pretty broad and absolute statement. I'll tell you with conviction that my wife would find this statement extemely offensive. If she swears an oath on a Bible you can bank on it that she will fulfill that oath. So would a helluva lot of other people. The reasoning in this quoted post ( if there is any beyond a personal contempt for faith?) is misguided at best.

REALLY. If you're the type of person who takes their oath seriously, does putting your hand on a bible when you swear it make you any MORE serious about keeping your oath? Or are you saying that your wife feels okay about not fulfilling an oath as long as she didn't swear on the bible?

If you're the kind of person who doesn't normally take their oath with all seriousness, and tries to weasel out of things you say that you will do, putting your hand on a book isn't going to make you change your spots either.

Really. It's not the book, it's the person inside. Some of us could swear on a cheese danish and still keep their word.

Many of the comments here show a very low IQ, but I guess they would feel in good, you are in company with W. LOL
I personally hope Obama is a closet Atheist. Christians and Muslims have created all the wars and problems we face in the world today. There is nothing of use in the bible or the Koran unless you like a book of myth, contradictions and gratuitous violence. Or you could just watch Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2 and get the same thing.
