Because they're spending YOUR money, not theirs. It's easy to spend someone elses money.

We just spent $3 trillion on Bush's wars and the bailout which gives money (with no strings attached) to Bush's buddies - and still not with any kind of oversight despite what the law called for. Oh, and let's not forget the hundreds of billions spent on homeland defense that have little positive impact on our security.

Until the sheeple start to pay attention and hold their politicians accountable, it will continue until we're a broke third world country.

The bailout is squarely on the shoulders of the Democrats AND the Republicans, this isnt about Bush and his buddies, its about our entire broken Federal Government and if people truly wanted to hold someone accountable, there would have been a lot fewer votes for Obama and McCain since they were both pushing for it.

And to add to the frustration of the OP, here ya go:
Mayors of Philadelphia, Phoenix seek bailout share

The bailout is indeed on the shoulders of both parties but the arsonist of this house fire is the one and only GOP.

Not buying that one completely. Plenty of misguided regulation, and irresponsible spending that both parties are responsible for. I really think our current two party system is our own worst enemy.

i want to hear from you how good that is working in its first year once it is implemented. people who are working are NOT going to be working harder to support the people who are not working. look at the increase in businesses for sale right now. watch the end of year stock sell off. people are saying, "screw it". furthermore, you clearly have no idea how big the deficit is! it is interesting that the generation that wanted another group taxed to pay for big spending is actually the generation who will be paying for the big spending. life is full of irony!

Ron Paul's economic advisor, Peter Schiff, forecasted a huge financial mess for the US back in 2002 due to the freaking Federal Reserve setting artificially low interest rates, people spending way beyond their means just like the government, and lenders being forced to dish out home loans to low income families without proof of income or employment. Besides Paul, the message of limited government was also championed by Mike Huckabee as well and few people wanted to listen. Both candidates are in favor of the fair tax but way too many voters are afraid of true change AND something like a fair tax would end a lot of bs paper pushing jobs in government. So instead, the voters chose a president that would tell them what they wanted to hear with lots of fluff and vague concepts, little substance, and who is younger and more attractive. They certainly didn't want some small old man. Someone above mentioned taxes as a way of getting us out of debt. That is generally a very stupid idea. Much of the tax revenues collected are wasted in some form or other. As an example, 40% of Massachusetts revenue from state income tax was unaccounted for last year. Wouldn't it make a lot more sense to reduce spending? Of course it would. Higher taxes don't help the poor either. That belief has been doled out to us from the Democrats since the beginning of time and is used to make successful business owners feel guilty. A real solution to helping the poor is to donate to charities.
