Good comeback, I have to admit.

It doesn't apply to me, of course.

Wisdom is sublime, I would say. It doesn't discount the value of an education, but doesn't confuse it with true knowlege. It respects an intellect, but only if the same is wrapped with common sense. It recognizes that life experience is a greater path to truth than any social theory can ever be.

More than anything though, it involves a certain humbleness...and acceptance of ones own limitations. As Thomas Sowell put in, a value on fidelity to ones own niche in life...over good intentions presuming the capacity to alter society at large.

It is no accident, I don't think, that some of the greatest disasters in human history...which fill up gulags and graveyards...are borne from the visions and intents -- and arrogance -- of "intellectuals" who fancy themselves so superior as to impose their vision of human utopia on their fellow human beings...

Teachers are facilitators,-most not very good ones. Not very good because most have no real life experieinces. They couldn't do anything else, or so they thought, so they decided to teach. If you want to give your children a moral compass, a fair start in life, and have them respect themselves and the world, homeschool or private school is the answer. The leftist, malaise, socialist equalizers of the corrupt unionized public school system is no place to raise a child.

I'd definitely go for private schooling over home schooling. Yes, there are negative aspects to being in a school, but I think it's a good thing for a kid to be surrounded by other kids almost every day.

I would think that kids who are taught at home would be pretty socially isolated. Doesn't sound like a happy childhood to me.

Exclamation Misleading Information: Some unreported stats about the 2008 election

Okay, I have gotten this email too many times. Once for the 2000 election concerning Bush and Gore, now for the 2008 election.

First, the Law Professor, Joseph Olson from HAMLINE University is not associated to any of this. He states so on his website here Joseph Olson | Hamline University Law School in the Twin Cities of St. Paul, and Minneapolis Minnesota and he also states he has been trying to kill this since it started in 2000.

Bad information. We can promote our beliefs and we can use information to do so, but to use misleading and unfounded information only creates more fear. We have enough already.

Goodness. All this time, I thought the Republicans were the party of the rich. Why would the smart Democrats tell me that?

Professor Joseph Olson of Hemline University School of Law, St. Paul , Minnesota , points out some interesting facts concerning the 2008 Presidential election:

-Number of States won by: Democrats: 20; Republicans: 30

-Square miles of land won by: Democrats: 580,000; Republicans: 2,427,000

-Population of counties won by: Democrats: 127 million; Republicans: 143 million

-Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Democrats: 13.2; Republicans: 2.1

Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory Republican won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens. Democrat territory mostly
encompassed those citizens living in rented or government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..."
Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty
percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.
And here would be some more interesting fact to shake desperate Professor Joseph Olson out of his rancor.

The urban areas made possible to fertilizers for rural agriculture. Urban areas have made possible the technology they rely on to read this forum. These urban areas cannot follow the rural independence model without destroying rural areas via massive suburban sprawl. Go ahead, do the math-- how much sq acreage do we have and how many residents? How many acres should every man woman and child be apportioned to embrace the new government dictated green acres plan?

Joseph Olson and his ilk are idiots to believe that rural lifestyles are possible for everyone and therefore ought to be expected of all. Let's get all those brain surgeons out of hospitals and get them milking cows for their supper hence forth?

Wouldn't that mean that rural folks would have to do their own brain surgery? Their own rocket science? Their own everything that an advanced civilization currently provides? Welfare at 40% during bush era??? Is THAT so?

Here's a novel idea. How about city folks share what they know about solving problems, and rural folks share what they know about solving problems, and we all figure out what solutions are best for a given area respectfully? How about city dwellers give rural folks the credit they deserve for maintaining green spaces, preserving wildlife habitat, and being the bread basket of america? And how about rural america give some credit to egg head city dwellers making their economic participation viable by creating the goods and services that keep rural america connected to modernity? How about it folks? Can y'all play nice for a change?
