I wouldnt be so judgemental to say that about only blacks. There are also hispanics, middle easterners and deep south white folk who are also afraid of gays. PERIOD.
When you mention something of that nature, you are giving the impression that you are racist, havent been around other races who dont tolerate homo-ness and so on.
And dont think Im making this up, what you are saying is true, but to single it out as exclusively blacks...is offense and ridiculous. You CANNOT tell me, someone who has dated enough hispanic men to know that many of their mothers (and especially the fathers) also deny (or would disown if they knew) their sexuality. YOU ARE RIDICULOUS!
Its a religious thing, not a racial thing
Ever since this Prop. 8 passed in California recently, message boards all over the internets lit up with this devisive BS.
Hopefully most folks will realize what is happening and ignore it.
You would probably disagree with many on many viewpoints, are you afraid of me?
No, I personally fear no group as a whole. I tend to be live and let live.
I know/or have known quite a few people who were gay/lesbians/bisexual. Some are nice people, some are not, some are kind and loving, others are snippy, judgmental and mean spirited.
None of this personally stopped me from voting No on 8. However, my OP was a generalization regarding the community as a whole. Some Blacks fear homosexuality being legitimized by allowing gay marriage.

*chuckle*
My point was to the OP was simply about connecting fear to disagreement. This is a common tactic in many topics. I have been called homophobic, hateful, etc... simply because I disagreed with homosexuality. I can give solid reasoning along many lines why I disagree with it and I hold no hate or ill will to those that practice it.
Some may "fear", but I get a bit leery when that word gets thrown around as easily as it does concerning any topic of disagreement. Fear presumes emotional and irrational disagreement and when it is used as some do, it is a logical fallacy attempting to discredit any point that person or group might be trying to make.
The fear of homosexuality within the Black community is deeply rooted. This is not to say that aren't MANY Black homosexuals but the core of the Black community, the church, doesn't accept it. They actually fear it. Despite many stereotypes to the contrary, the Black communty can be very conservative in their views.
A Black mother is more devastated that her son is gay than in a violent gang. This is not going to change with angry marches.
The civil rights movement was such a looong struggle and took time for people to truly digest what was being fought for. The anti-Prop 8 marches in LA are very in your face with a "how dare you deny us" attitude. I personally voted No on Prop 8 but I do resent that the gay community is not willing to take the time, make the efforts and suffer the way that blacks did during the civil rights movement.
And while I do believe that they have the right to marry, I think that a lot of people believe that they have to pay their dues.
Pay their dues? With that thinking you are saying that we as a people should not learn from our mistakes or achievements.
Go read the Constitution again, bill of rights and just check yourself. If it wasn't for other groups outside of your community including Gay People fighting for your civil rights, do you think you would be free? really, do you?
Do you think a black man would be able to marry a white woman??? hmm?
Please remember who helped you follow the drinking gord...
People outside of YOUR community.

It just disgusts me that 'black people' allowed their judgment to be swayed by Pulpit Politic Preachers who were getting money from outside groups like the Mormons in another state who funded prop 8 and worked directly with the black community preachers and gave them cashola.
So are black people down with having 20 wives-- youre so down to listen to what they think, you must be down with them.

Are you equally disgusted with white people, latino people, and I imagine Asian people who voted for Prop 8?

Yes because we are Americans and this bs is breaking the very laws that define us as a nation. It is not cool to shred the constitution, deny anyone their freedom of religion, civil rights or to NOT Separate Church and State
.
However, I find it hypocritical more so of Black people to deny anyone their civil rights regardless of fear. If they lost the ability to marry a white person, latino or any other person outside of their own race again wouldn't they want all people to defend them like they wanted people who 'feared them' to defend them the first time around.
Why do you believe that sexual orientation is a choice when all of the scientific evidence indicates that people do not choose their sexual orientation?
You seem to suggest that gays should abstain from sex if they want to be accepted. Am I understanding you correctly?
And there's the ignorance that must be overcome within the black community.
I'm not living my life alone to satisfy ignorant beliefs.
