The AOL straw poll often had McCain at 70+% to win the election. I don't believe it has any record of accuracy.
This is getting more press, but not it a good way. Our local news even talked about the "crazy fringe" of people who were pushing the "ridiculous" issue, and it was a Fox station.
AOL did a poll and 53% think its false and 47% think it has merit. That's only 400,000 people in the survey but its a good cross section of the country. I think its time for Obama to stop stonewalling and just release the documents. But ist interesting that this is getting more press and momentum.

AOL polls also showed John McCain winning by a landslide.
Was this one of their online polls? Where participation is voluntary and hardly a cross section since participation is anonymous? No Obama would rather it continue for reasons highlighted in the link I posted. Culture of conspiracy: the Birthers - Ben Smith - POLITICO.com
The opportunity for the White House? It's one of which some conservatives are sharply aware — that the Birthers may discredit Obama's more mainstream enemies.
"At some level, they're not that bad to have around because it reminds people that under the mainstream conservative press there's this bubbling up of really irrational hatred for the guy," said former Clinton White House press secretary Jake Siewert.
Siewert recalled that his predecessor, Mike McCurry, sometimes deliberately called on a conservative radio host, Lester Kinsolving, just to undercut more mainstream criticism of the president.
Another reason why Rahm highlighted and gave credit to Rush as the leader and face of the GOP.
First off, I don't believe any of this, if there was something to it the media or GOP would have dug it up.. That said, why did Obama have his record sealed if he has nothing to hide????
A basic problem with the GOP is that the populace needs to be dumbed down to get them to vote against their own best interests. Hence Fox, righty talk radio, etc. to spread propaganda. This backfires when, inevitably, a large group of Republicans becomes so ignorant that swing voters swing away to disassociate themselves from the laughingstocks.

I remember those polls from last summer and fall. If I recall correctly they're answered by AOL patrons. They were famous for being far out of synch with all the professional polls.

One of them had McCain winning all 50 states, another had him winning with 70% of the popular vote.
