For unknown reasons, the number of preterm births is far higher among African-American women even when those women have access to good medical care, Dr. D'Alton said.
Connecting this to the stress that can come with race is just a theory at this point but it's something that shouldn't be ruled out or be surprising if it's a factor.
Assuming there's some truth to this theory I'd think that just the awareness of it could lead to new or different approaches to helping pregnant Black women in dealing with those race related stresses that are more particular to them. So the important thing would be for more doctors to take this information into account when dealing with pregnant Black women.
