From washingtonpost.com
by Dan Balz

As vice president, Richard B. Cheney famously spent much of the past eight years in undisclosed locations and offering private advice to President George W. Bush. But past was not prologue.

Today Cheney is the most visible -- and controversial -- critic of President Obama's national security policies and, to the alarm of many people in the Republican Party, the most forceful and uncompromising defender of the Bush administration's record. His running argument with the new administration has spawned a noisy side debate all its own: By leading the criticism, is Cheney doing more harm than good to the causes he has taken up and to the political well-being of his party?

As Cheney seizes spotlight, many in GOP wince - Washington Post- msnbc.com

Cheney was the mastermind behind the entire bush administration.... Of course he's going to speak out.. it was his baby...
I think bush was just a dumb hick with a prominent family name propelled to greatness that he couldn't live up to.. so he was a puppet of people behind the scenes, and the main string puller was Cheney...
Cheney sat quietly out of the spotlight while bush took blow after blow for policies...
Cheney is really a disgusting human being considering everything that he has advocated and being investigated for...
I have zero respect for this man and anything that comes out of his mouth now...
let the investigators and court system suss it out.. but I'm done listening to this man.. I'm open to a new game plan from the GOP...but sadly we're not hearing anything but bickering...

You're getting opinions from the wrong sources - liberals, anonymous "GOP strategists".

The base loves Cheney - deal with it.

I would like to hear a lot more from Vice President Cheney. I would like to know about these secret operations that "kept us safe" while he was running things. I would also like to know how much money he made by investing in companies where he controlled their contracts. I would like to know a lot of things about Mr. Cheney’s activities. I can only hope he keeps bragging.

What base is this? The American public? The GOP as a whole? The neocons? I'll buy it in the case of the last one, but no base of American people love Cheney.

That's the main problem with the GOP - that "base".

And you have no problem with the current administration undermining the previous one in one breath, and validating them in the next by agreeing and taking the same action.

You cant criticize the previous administration, if your taking the SAME steps they did..
