As a resident of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, I'm more than happy to support the secession of Texas

Now please go read a book on American History so that you can the poison out of your system.
Slavery was not made illegal well before the end of the Civil War. Slavery became illegal nationally AFTER the Civil War, and while Northern states did pass state laws to make slavery illegal, it was not comprehensive. Which is why there were still slaves in the Northern states per the 1860 census.

Abraham Lincoln did not own slaves, but his grandfather did.

The South went to war to preserve the states' right to protect or outlaw slavery as the states saw fit. While protecting slavery was a priority, anyone who demeans someone else for their lack of education should examine the reasons why protecting slavery was so important. Because to even suggest that the entire South was morally bankrupt is an example of both ignorance and discrimination. The economy of the South was dependent on slavery. That dependence was not just the fault of the South for engaging in slavery, it was also the fault of the North for fostering that economic dependence. Ask yourself this, when England ended slavery in its colonies, it compensated the slave owners. Not compensating the slave owners would have sent its colonies into economic chaos which would, in turn, have damaged England's economy. What happens to the South's economy when slavery is abolished? Do countries take extreme measures, even going to war, to protect their economies?

Influent?

Congrats. We're the third mostly densely populated state in the Union, we gained 200,000 people but it wasn't enough to keep the seat. Regardless, either you leave or we'll leave!
