What the heck does pandemic preparedness have to do with economic stimulus?

If it is so important, put it in as part of the general budget bill.

It was a stimulus bill to the republicans (who admit to never reading it, so I can't expect them to understand any of it but they would speak nonetheless). It was a recovery package, which was designed for more than just a stimulus, and to protect against situations that can hurt us in a downturn even more, as well as ideas for restructuring and saving costs in the future by investing NOW.

GOPhers picked only couple of words... stimulus and spending, and went about their usual business.

This is a stupid argument. Completely nonsensical. Building hospitals creates jobs, repairing existing hospitals creates jobs, hiring medical staff creates jobs, purchasing new medical equipment creates jobs (someone has to build the machines & maintain them), buting medications creates jobs, or do you think all of this is not done by people and instead is created with magical libertarian fairy dust?

Econmic stimulus seems to be a slush fund not stilmulus. If someone wants to add to a progrma or get something for a special interest ;propose the bill ;don't add it as pork to the stilulus.

That is too complex for simple minds, who can't get a grasp of anything but physical distribution of wealth. Only then they have a clue, not how things actually work, and should work.

The stimulus package is suppose to fund projects that will lead to long term economic growth....i.e. projects that have a much larger money multiplier effect down the road. Buying flu vaccines does not. I am not saying it isn't important because it is but it should be proposed as a separate bill or part of the general budget.

That is not what he said at all.

President Obama said Monday that the swine flu outbreak is a "cause for concern and requires a heightened state of alert," but is not a "cause for alarm."

I assume you mean the "shovel ready" (as in shoveling bs) projects providing construction jobs. Fine, let's work with this theory for a moment.

Construction workers will be employed using bulldozers, etc. for 6-12 months creating X hospital. Well, why not keep them employed longer and have them use shovels instead? Better yet, why not teaspoons to dig the dirt? This will also benefit the flatware companies since these teaspoons will likely bend and break often.

Keynesian witchdoctor voodoo economics at work. Or I should say "making work".
