The numbers are way too low for this to be an epidemic let alone a pandemic. This could be premature, but seeing that we do not have anything to dominate the news lately.
The numbers do seem low, but its out there right now how deadly this can be. It is transmittable between humans through the air.. if this mutates more... we could really begin to see some serious issues. Things like this I don't believe should be taken lightly.
True, things like this should now be taken lightly. However, there is no reason to make everyone have a panic attack. While it is very contagious, doing simple thing such as washing your hands will reduce the likelihood of catching the disease as opposed to someone who is filthy.
I think the media/government need to keep the public well informed of anything that is infectious to our health. Even if they're talking about it every 10 minutes on t.v., at least you can't say you weren't told about it. Better safe than sorry.
They've already stated that this viurs lacks the genes that made the 1918 strain so deadly. Additionally, the "attack rate" (how communicable the virus is) is no different than the normal flu.
Glenn Beck likes to say that when stuff like this happens look to see what "the other hand is doing". My guess is that there is something important going on and this flu is being used to distract us.
Way overblown, from the information that has been given thus far. However, the more serious threat may come this fall, as the virus typically goes somewhat dormant and mutates further over the summer. It could conceivably come back even tougher in the fall.
OTOH, a friend of mine that resides in a south american country, says they havent heard a thing about it, until I brought it to their attention, and a plane load of Mexican students were just flown in for some big concert.....meanwhile Hong Kong reports their first case, a mexican traveler that flew in within the past 48 hours........hmmmm, go figure.
Definitely overplayed and overhyped in the media. Rather than just give the facts they sensationalize it to where you don't even believe it anymore.
