That's a huge load of baloney. People assure their OWN "lowly status". This is the freakin' US of A for pete's sake. If you're poor here, you aren't trying hard enough to improve yourself.
The issue is that a teacher who makes--if she/he's lucky--$50,000/year is in a 28% tax bracket, and probably has no write-offs. That 28% makes a significant difference for that teacher, in terms of quality of lifestyle. Someone who makes a half-million a year, with write-offs, may very well end up paying less in taxes than the teacher--and their quality of life is not affected.
To be rich and whine about having to pay more taxes--especially a measly 3% more--is to have no class. Only the crudely wealthy--generally, the newly wealthy--throw a fit about taxes.
Oh, the poor teacher. No write-offs? What about...um...the home mortgage...or gosh, maybe those "classes" they "must" take in the summer when they aren't working a 12 month a year job.

Sharing the wealth will not harm us but the greed is good and what is mine is mine certainly will. What you call "balance" I consider to just be a "fair deal". The soviet Union was never a socialist economy but a mutant form of greed driven state kleptocracy driven by a nearly feudal ruling class. That it developed as far as it did is the astonishing.

Why would you ask who can afford to pay what? Taxation is not about how much people can afford to pay. It's about how much people should be **forced** to pay. So, what is the answer to that?

If you want to make more money, work for it. Nobody should feel sorry for you because you don't make enough. The majority of the wealthy have worked very hard for their money and have created tons of jobs.
The people that want the rich to pay more are envious and feel that people should pay more, just because they can, regardless of how hard they worked.
It's pathetic and it's nothing more than class envy.
Just don't p*** and moan when you're fired because your boss has to pay higher taxes and can't turn a profit anymore.
