you would think that the government could find better uses for all the billions of dollars wasted on pork projects like bridges to nowhere.. and help the poor to have a hot meal and a roof over there heads..it makes me sick when i here about people like greedyparasiticcockroach bernie madoff scamming thousands of people out of billions of dollars to feed his ego trip!! and he will still live better in jail than the homeless will live on the streets. what a great country!!!
You are right. You know there are so many rules that these homeless people have to follow. They can only stay so many days,etc. Even the Y.We turn our backs on homeless and it really it a sad thing.
If they want a hot meal or a roof over their (not there) heads, they can get jobs and pay their own way like the rest of us.
The problem is that many of them can't -- it's not black and white like that. Many of these people are mentally ill; they cannot work. There are no mental institutions around for these people to be properly cared for.
That was kind of you. See I don't mind the $$$. YES it could be for booze, yes it could be for drugs, but it could be for food or Mortin, shoes,etc.
Once I have a man along the highway $10. He was sitting there in the rain with a cardboard sign. I stopped, jumped out and have him $10, water and a granola bar. I left and went to the bank and then to the gas station. When I got there I saw the guy. He was buying something. When I got close enough to see what he was buying, I could see he had a small bag of dog food he was buying and band aids. Under his coat he had a little dog. When I got outside he was opening the bag and feeding the dog. He noticed me and thanked me again and said he found the dog wandering the street. He said " he was homeless so I figured we made a good team". I almost started to cry on the spot. I gave him $20 more and wished him well and went on my way.
I didn't leave him thinking " boy I sure helped him" I left him embarrassed that I was getting into a warm car and driving home. Being homeless sucks and any chance I can help, I will.

They can't even get welfare if they wanted to. They have to have an address to get a check.
As I said before, each one should be arrested. Bring them in and have each person evaluted. Many of them really are (as you said) mentally ill and are dangerous to themselves and to society. We have Vets who risked their lives for our safety and freedom and they are sleeping under bridges,etc.
When I think of the money wasted in Washington and then think of these people, it just makes me sick.

Oh I am just doing what I feel like I need to do. I care about each one and each one has a story and that is what put them in this situation.
People are mistaken when they are comfy and think that that " disgusting" man needs to get out of their way. " How dare he ask ME for money". Well as fast as we all got our cushy lives, we can have them taken away.
I honor all of them.
If I ever win the lottery, all my friends know I am going to open a huge center in LA where homeless people can come and get food, supplies, a bed to sleep in and help. Help them gain their self respect again.
Watch the news. If you ever hear of someone doing that in LA, you will know I won

Since I cannot realistically tell whether someone is genuinely mentally ill or not, I tend to give anyone in that horrible situation the benefit of the doubt.

You are right. Someone can "look" normal or able bodied and have a mental illness. So many soliders are homeless and have issues and they look like me and you.
I remember once seeing a man in an Izod golf shirt and dockers eating from a garbage can. When he was finished he went to his shopping cart and walked off.
What was that line our parents taught us " you can't judge a book by its cover".
I say, just help all you can and once in awhile we'll be bound to get it right
