I refuse to believe America will turn into Europe. Think about it. The people who comprise the United States descended from people who had the gumption to move here from another country to seek a better life. Surely, that same drive and initiative will prevent them from allowing Obama to take away their way of living.

Or maybe most people ARE up in arms, but the MSM is squelching it to make it appear the manchild is loved and his programs are popular.

SURELY, these enterprising people will derail this idiot in 2010 by electing conservative Congressmen to stop him.
Maybe come election time, people will prove me wrong. I certainly hope this is the case, but the fact is we are a lethargic nation. This isn't a shock, it is no surprise as the founders spoke of this happening. They knew it eventually would happen. The fact that we have a nation of people who arrogantly claim our founders wisdom as backwards and "old thinking" merely confirms this. Due to the lethargic nature of our society, this subscribing to "pay me now" leaders will only continue to dissolve the nation. People will not stand up or take notice until ALL is lost. It will not be until people are in chains that they will realize what they have thrown away. Such is the nature of people.

Eventually, maybe not now or in our lifetimes, but we will lose it all and people will have to spend as much effort, sweat, and blood to reclaim the things they now take for granted as the founders did to obtain it. Those who are unwilling to submit themselves to that task do not deserve the rewards of that sacrifice. We live in a nation of suckling children who are naive of the requirements to achieve and sustain freedom.

Obama made a lot of promises to a lot of various groups. He got the majority vote. If he comes through on his promises he'll become their savior. If not..someone else will come along in 4 years to take his place.

With the deficit growing as much as it is I just don't see how he can NOT raise taxes (income).

Sorry to disappoint you but the Greedy, manipulating and corrupt CEO's and big corporations have destroyed Capitalism in a way that Obama could never do.
Capitalism has now been corrupted and can no longer exist on its own.
Capitalism and Socialism work well together and balance each other out.

Let's ask the folks that will lose their jobs from auto dealerships if they are Obamaphobic. They lost their jobs for no other reason than he wants to make a statement.

The solution is simple.

1) Disallow personal injury lawsuits.
Do you know why India and Thailand can offer open heart surgery and other major operations done in first rate facilities by excellent American-educated surgeon for 10% what is charged here? Personal injury lawsuits aren't permitted.

2) Stop insuring every hangnail.
When people have to pay for basic low-end medical services, they are more judicious about using the services.

Bill Clinton was a Republican?

No, but Congress was Republican when the GDP started taking off.

The problem with this scenario is that the old conservatism is dying, a new conservatism is still trying to emerge, and a Republican Congress is within recent memory, unlike in 1994. The GOP has some sorting out and restructuring to do - I think it will come back, and my guess is 2014. It's in the same condition the Dems were in back in the early '80s, attached to political icons of the past who no longer carry much weight (instead of "a return to FDR" with Mondale, it's "a return to Reagan" with Romney), filled with extremists, and in need of some obvious soul searching. Ideological purity doesn't win presidential elections ; it has just the opposite effect.

As for what the next conservatism will look like, Ron Paul's campaign in 2008 might provide some clues. Gary Johnson or even Mark Sanford may take up Paul's mantle. Perhaps the next conservatism will favor things that Obama's too chicken to go through with at this point - e.g. marijuana legalization and gay marriage combined with a message of fiscal responsibility. (This is not barring the possibility that if the states act first the POTUS will be forced to do something.) It's still too early to tell.
Paul's message is spending and tax cuts like the GOP Revolution of the 90s espoused. But if you think a non-existent military and abandoning issues like opposition to abortion and legalization of pot is the ticket, then the GOP will do as well in an election as Ron Paul did.

They lost their jobs because of the huge costs to large companies of private health schemes, corruption and huge bonuses given to CEO's and the flooding of foreign cars and merchandise into America. This happened before Obama became President..maybe it was Bush making the statement?
