In Obama's speech in Cairo today he tried to rewrite history by strongly implying that our Founding Fathers were supporters of Islam and what it teaches. He did this by stating that Thomas Jefferson had a copy of the Koran in his library. If you read unedited history you find out that the reason Jefferson had the Koran is that he wanted to read it and understand why Islam had an intolerance for anyone that wasn't muslim and what was the basis for the muslim belief that a person be muslim, convert to muslim, or die. Jefferson and John Adams were in no way supportive of many of the beliefs of Islam. I'm would imagine that Jefferson and Adams are turning over in their graves today.

Quote from Jefferson stating that was his reason for having a Koran?

Nobody would have a copy of the Koran for anything other than trying to find out how superior Islam is to Christianity. We just found that out in the first two replies to your post.
I find that scholars have many things like that book on their shelves and that the reasons are varied. Unless some of these folks can find some proof that Jefferson had something about Islam other than the Koran it seems to me that he wasn't really wanting to know as much as possible about Islam. I think he was trying to find out as much as he could and not for the reasons Our Leader expressed to all those Muslim believers yesterday.
I still think he is campaigning for some unkown international office.

Your opinion.
Still waiting for the OP, or you, or anyone, to quote TJ on this...
and TJ really would be the only legitimate source....

Learning from others is powerful. If what your are stating is indeed correct, I think that shows how progressive Jefferson was! He was open-minded enough to read the Koran. Instead of dismissing Islam as a "Christian-hating" religion.
