He was tuned in enough to know he never had the genius or talent of any of the Beatles - so he bought Apple Records thinking that would somehow endow him with their genius.
Kinda like, well if the Beatles are so great, how come I own them?
This is a false dichotomy. The Beatles were a great band for their genre, while MJ was a great musician for his genre. It is absurd to say one is better than the other.

After the music died, there was a desert.
Even cactus juice is better than nothing - I guess.
And just look at his "genre" - mindless materialists with greed on meth - perfect for the 80's.

Time moves on. The Beatles were right for the 60s. MJ was right for the 70s and 80s. They had different styles. The technology was different. Did you expect anyone who came after the Beatles to sound exactly like the Beatles for you to say they are as good as the Beatles?
Well granted unfortunately, many people will remember him for his later years. However, I will choose to remember him during his "Thriller" years, when I had a crush on him. I played his CD in my car today, "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" is by far one of his best songs. There is no denying to anyone that he was a legend & an icon.
I remember being at a convention in D.C. when that song was popular. There was a closing dinner and dance and when they played that song EVERYONE was out on the floor....dancing, laughing, and having a wonderful time. Happy memory.

Alright - I'll be honest - I don't like the kind of people to whom MJ appeals.
So what do you think you know about the people to whom he appeals? What is it about them you don't like?
That the whole of their lives is pretty much contrived gimmick.
Materialistic groupie mentality. They would be the one's standing in long lines to be the first in their "friends" group to buy the latest I-Pod. Their brains don't go much further than that, other than to steal artist's work off the internet.
That was a typo! Michael Jackson was an OBSOLUTE genius!
Better - Thanks for the correction.
