So everyone picks sides and defends that side's point of view. But what about your actual point of view? The world isn't black and white, therefore it isn't just liberal and conservative. Can't we throw away the stupid labels and think for ourselves? In case anyone hasn't noticed yet, a two party system doesn't work very well.

If Americans keep this up we'll end up in just two entertaining but pathetic camps; the first being a bunch of messy haired wild eyed people in FEMA welfare camps that spend their days quilting dollar bills and NY times back issues into blankets to pay for their taxes while the other group will consist of old pasty white people who fear sunlight and live hunkered down in bunkers cleaing their guns with pages from the bible while eating old MREs and cockroaches.

Why can't we be Americans again?

We do not have a 2 party system. The powers that be are capeable of supressing any real thought and dissent in government. That is why Ron Paul is rideculed and made to look like a loon by the press and Government.

If anyone attempts to challenge the status-quo (ie. bought-and-paid-for-politicians), they are labled and cast by the wayside. While I do not agree with or even like Sarah Palin, the way she is treated by the media and the lliberal left is a prime example of what is wrong with this country. We have been so brainwashed into believing that those with political experience are the answer to our problems and we keep electing and re-electing them to office. The common folk have the answers, not the silver-spoon political blowhards that think they know what its like on the low end of the totem pole. Money and corporate influence has successfully shut out the common folk from the political process, and we are left with the scum of the political world to vote for. For this reason, America as we know it is done. The little man has no place in this nation, and we can thank greed, not our ideology, for that.

I do think for myself. It just happens that I agree with Democrats about 80% of the time.

According to polls I've seen recently, most Republicans don't believe in evolution, don't believe that Obama is a U.S. citizen, and believe that gays choose to be gay. I just can't identify with an organization of people like that.

It is very simple, actually. Liberals believe in the all-powerful totalitarian state, while conservatives believe in freedom.

This is why conservatives believe in a stronger millitary, for instance. Liberals want a state so all-powerful and totalitarian that it doesn't even need a millitary!, while conservatives want America to have the freedom to have a really big millitary if we need it. Or, for instance, the issues of indefinite detentions and torture. Liberals want an all-powerful totalitarian state, so powerful that it even has the power to resist torturing people that obviously have it coming to them. Conservatives, on the other hand, want our CIA agents to have the freedom to use the proven interrogation techniques of Jack Bauer.

PS: No I am not obnoxious, in case you are wondering.

Simple...divide and conquer. The people with the power on both "sides" are no different, but with everyone divided they maintain their control.

I think it's their ideology. The citizens of this country need to pull off the blinders, get off their butts, say: "Enough is Enough!" and do it en mass before the American experiment is just history.

Good post. I have leaned right for decades waiting for the so called conservatives to prove their philosophy to the public after tossing out the lefties. Very bad results happened instead. I've learned that many politicians on the left will join the GOP to get elected when the wind was blowing that way, same thing is going the other way now. I've learned that many on the right and left agree more than they realize. The two party is toast, it is proven that the federal government is corrupt. It has thru both parties morphed the free market and are taking marching orders from think tanks and small powerful political organizations that both parties belong to. Many appointees and those who are elected from both parties belong to these organizations who then attempt to institute their one world global laws into the federal system. In short order, history may repeat itself by forcing sovereign States to rebel from the fed in which it created 200+ years ago. I hope not.
