I think the problem is that politics is the art of wielding commonly accepted brutality (law enforcement) against your fellow citizens. What more is a law than a justification of the use of force against someone doing something you don't like? Politics is all about thuggery.
I argue that if we are going to institutionalize thuggery (and we are, because we need good thugs to beat down criminals), then the institution should certainly be supported ONLY by those who are willing to support it. As it oversteps its bounds, it will find less support and therefore become weaker. This means that taxation (coerced support for institutionalized thuggery) must stop - at least coercive taxation. Most feel this would bankrupt the government. Of course, they don't realize the government is already bankrupt (except for the citizens it owns - you and me). If some small piece of the government (the good local police - there are several in every city, I'm sure) started refusing revenue from coerced taxes and getting paid by willing supporters instead, things would start improving. They could start putting IRS agents in jail for harassing tax evaders who are merely trying to avoid helping the parasitic beast we call government grow.
Remember when the white house recently issued a warning law enforcement agencies that recent news is helping "right-wing extremist groups" recruit new members and could lead to violence going as far as calling out our vets
