If this stimulus money would actually get out, I think there's a strong value in rebuilding infrastructure and expanding rail transportation options.
There is a story out there that while private sector job losses continue to rise, government has seen increases in employment - that is NOT the way to stimulate an economy.

796 Stimulus Jobs

Quote:
For New Hampshire, the result is 796.2. That’s how many jobs measured in full time equivalents were paid for with stimulus dollars as of the end of June. Just about all of them, 700, are government workers who otherwise would have been laid off.
Here's your problem. Those government workers should have been laid off, government needs to not just STOP expanding, they need draconian cuts in the workforce and budgets.

The end result, government continues to expand, while the private sector sheds jobs. That is A** backwards.

But that is as usual the answer from the dems/libs, increase government to stimulate the economy - it never works.

Just curious; Have you looked to see how much money those companies have given obama and the dems?

This might be fun; Here's just ONE of those on your flag;

My thought exactly. Who cares what the average American thinks? The average american has no idea whether or not the stimulus is working.

Any new government jobs aught to be excluded from the employment numbers. A healthy, growing economy is not one where the new jobs are created in government.

More of this is needed. Less of stupid political "stimulus bills".
If people are worried about losing their jobs (or if one of them has already lost a job) then the family is going to take any tax credits and just sock it away. They aren't going to spend it on newly manufactured items.

One thing a government can do is invest in infrastructure (bridges, tunnels, public transit). At least future generations get something tangible for their money. The only problem with that is that it is seen as putting mostly men to work because construction crews are a heavily male-dominated field.

The bloviators of the blogosphere have been in full roar the past few weeks over the claimed success of the economic stimulus program. Much of this was ignited by Christina Romer, chair of the President's Council of Economic Advisors, in a speech addressing the question of whether the stimulus was working--and concluding that it was, "absolutely."

Excellent article.
