Well, we have lives. Faith just helps one face some of the tough situations we all face in life. It helps me and helps many others. It is not for everyone, but each person must willingly choose thier own path.

I think that many of you must be reading words from extremists, as the Catholics tend to be pretty low key about all this stuff. I can't speak for other denominations, but it is probably much the same way.

It took 14 pages to get the first honest depiction of what Christianity is today. An individual choice based on what's going on in an individuals life.

Yeah, it shows.

Denominations? May be we should have another thread... what denomination would Jesus belong to?

Why is that any different than Christianity's inception. It is all about personal faith and individual choice. Churches are just physical place to gather. Do you think that personal choice regarding this issue is not a favorable attribute? I don't care whether other people believe in God or not- I do and am comfortable with my choice. Othese do not and are comfortable with their choice.

You make it sound like a "soup of the day" selection, although I know you do not mean it that superficially. I agree, it has to be completely voluntary on the individual's part. But recognize that many, many Christians believe in straight interpretations of the Bible (which doesn't allow as much on the smorgasbord).

Don't church members pay "tithes" 'cough' taxes 'cough' to the church which are used to fund programs that the entire congregation benefits from? Does that make Jesus a tax and spend liberal? Would Jesus have sided with corporations or the common man? Since the right widly throws the word socialism around as slander, please explain to me how this works. I know it would require a conservative religious person with common sense and the rare ability to tell the truth, so I wont hold my breath.
You should read Jesus wants to save Christians by Rob Bell and The Jesus I never knew by Philip Yancey.

Both authors give a different take on Jesus, not that they say he was a socialist but they point out some things that most of the religious right doesn't like to hear. Like America becoming an empire similar to the empires described in the Bible, like the Roman Empire that occupied the country where Christ was sacrificed. How we spend more money on our military to protect our wealth than we do on helping those in need. Like how loving our neighbors is more important that passing legislation that forces them to conform to our religious views.

You would like them...if you bothered.

Jesus was a Jew. Again, it is an issue of the trinity, such that Christ is indistinguishable from God. It is not a situation in which Christ is the bandleader and president of Christainity or a specific branch of Christianity. He was a messenger and delivered the message. To people who listened, it does not matter what you call them.

I find it disturbing when religion and politics are melded to achieve a politcal goal. That is a perversion of religion.

All legislation has a moral point; otherwise, there is no point in passing any.

Sorry. The testimony of those living at the time says your wrong.

I really couldn't care less if you believe it or not. That's your problem. Not mine.
Your compassion is overwhelming. Btw, how's school?
