That headline is terrible (directed at Gallup, not OP, who used Gallup's headline). It makes it sound as if the approval rating of Democrats in Congress dropped, while in actuality, it's Democrat poll respondents whose approval of Congress (as a whole) showed the most dramatic decline.

Just wanted to clear that up for some who may not read the entire article.

Umm...is it not reasonable to assume that the Democrats polled are not happy with their Democratic representatives? By extension, that means that the approval rating of Democrats in Congress has declined. Surely you don't think that the Democrats polled are only unhappy with Republicans, who by the way can't do much swaying of anything due to their minority, filibuster-proof status. It's silly to think that the Democrats polled are not unhappy with Democrats in Congress, in my opinion.

My post wasn't meant as a defense of Congressional Democrats, whom I'm none to pleased with myself right now. I just wanted to point out that the headline could easily be misconstrued.

I wonder if the arc of unemployment and congress approval #'s will intersect at some point.

Like any other poll, it depends on how you look at it, and what you want to see.

According to a chart in the article, for Oct. '09, the approval ratings for Congress are given as:
Democrats: 36%
Republicans: 9%
Independents: 16%
But if you go back to the first month given in the chart, Jan. '09, the numbers are:
Democrats: 18%
Republicans: 23%
Independents: 18%
So if you compare the ratings at the beginning of the year to where they stand now, you see that the Democrats have doubled on their approval rating of Congress, Republicans have dropped more than 50% in their rating of Congress, and Independents are basically at the same level of approval.

In other words, if the author of this article had looked at the big picture rather than narrowing his focus to just the last couple of months, the title of the article would have been: Approval of U.S. Congress Falls to 21%, Driven by Republicans.

It's all in how you look at it.

I am hoping that this is a sign of things to come. That Americans are waking up and getting sick of the whats happening in DC.

That it isnt about a party but its about wanting them to stop wasting our money, Stop lying to us just because they can because we keep electing them even if they do lie to us, Remember they work for us.That they are citizens just like us and have to follow the same laws we do. IE pay your taxes
