My solution would be to afford coverage to those who serve over X number of years, fight in a war, etc. They could pay into it like the GI Bill while serving. I paid into the GI Bill, and they paid for my first degree. I see it as a win-win. People who serve and are injured, etc. are covered (like sailordave says). The issue of their jobs covering could also be addressed. If you DO have a job with health coverage provided, then you don't qualify for this until after that is no longer in effect. So...say someone gets out, becomes a police officer, does that for 20-25 years and isn't covered when they retire. This is when the coverage kicks in. I don't know...not saying it's perfect. It's just a thought.

Bascailly as has been put forth ;give veterans a card that alows them access to private hospital care. the veterans hospital system has has problems for years as we saw in Walter Reed recently and that is the top hospital in the system in our nations capital. It takes a scandal or crisis for governamnts poor runnig of anyhting to bring light to the fact that governamnt is terrible at running anything really.Have a proiblem and try to strighten it out with government.

VA care seems very site specific, I have friends inn the Lehigh Valley area of PA who are quite complimentary of the local VA hospital.

That's why they should have quality review like non VA Hospitals do.

Republican Answer: Its very sad they died but they probably did because they were lazy and poor, and it would be communist to help any lazy poor person who doesnt pull themselves up with their own bootstraps. Therefore its actually good for society to let these lazy, inferior poor people die. Anyone who doesnt have health care should go to an emergency room, ER's can cure anything in one visit! If not, quietly go die somewhere else.

Obama is a colored communist evil muslim terrorist who wants to promote miscegenation of our aryan children to mongrelize america into being something like him!

Democratic Answer: We should offer a very very limited public option, although the public option would not help very many people. We should also work on tort reform. While medical malpractice insurance costs has more to do with insurance industries choosing to jack up prices amist falling malpractice claims statistically, we still feel that we need to limit liability to doctors who make mistakes that cost lives.

Obama is the messiah of Change and is doing great and we support everything hes doing even though we dont, and we are changing everything Bush did to put the country in this situation even though we are keeping 99% of his policies and practices (that we supported and helped enact) in place!

tindo80: excellent post.

Let me ask those of you who are against the public option. Would you decline Medicare for yourself? That is something the Democrats pushed for and you are against government-run health care, so you should stick to your principles and REFUSE medicare when you hit that age.

HOly crap. This is already turning into a Democrat/Republican thing. Just answer the question already. What's your solution? Oh...and Holy Crap. I have to edit. It appears the OP has more of an agenda. See above.
