When is it official that the same-sex marriages will be honored and permitted ?

Really, it could be argued that favoring the legalization of same-sex marriage is actually a conservative position. What's more traditional than wanting to get married and settle down with another person for life?

(I got that concept from David Brooks, who is also pro-same-sex-marriage. )
