You'll hear stories from U.S. citizens whose care was compromised because hospitals didn't WANT to hire more nurses. It wasn't because of a lack of qualified nurses but the CEO of the hospital wanted higher profits.
The only way for Government run healthcare to work anywhere in the world, is to have all personnel, meaning doctors, nurses, pharmacist and on down the line, to be Government employees.
No one in the medical or healthcare field, would be private practice.

It's not the same thing can happen, the same thing does happen. I was working in high-acuity pediatric intensive care. The staff-patient ratios were consistently cut regardless of the input of the nurses. I eventually left because I felt it was an incredibly unsafe environment for the patients. The admin didn't care, they just hired more inexperienced staff who really had no clue how at risk they or the patients were.
Yeah we are so much better off than other industrialized countries when it comes to infant and mother mortality. (PS, we are worse than Cuba and many other "socialist" countries) https://www.cia.gov/library/publicat.../2091rank.html
Do some research and you'll find that our system is broke. A natural event has turned into a billion $$$ industry... only in America.

The stats say that the UK does a better job, as far as pregnancy goes, for FAR less money. Your opinion article states no facts.
Yes its true, one in five health trusts have a shortage of midwives. I'd never want a US system though. Look at France for a 'socialist' system that works. Granted its not perfect, but then what is?

£92.5bn - the cost of the entire NHS for the financial year 2008-9
$596.6bn- the combined cost of the Medicare and Medicaid programs (£360bn).
Medicare and Medicaid also require premiums and co-payments in addition to the government £596.6bn.
Medicare has about 45 million people enrolled and Medicaid 50 million.
Do the math. The NHS is less than half the cost of Medicare and Medicaid.
From a friend of a friend of a friend in Britain I heard that all hospitals have dumpsters outside where babies that die for lack of care are tossed. This guy also said that white babies must wait because non-white babies have priority.
