While I am very critical of our current relationship with Israel, I have no problem being an ally with them. I only wish that our relationship is purely mutual and on an equal basis as it might be with any other ally.
We are very close allies with the British and have good relations with the Argentinians, yet when they went to war with each other, we didn't lose our minds, change our foreign policy or show gross favor to one or the other. They worked it out, and we continue to do business with all parties.
As the poster before you pointed out, it is time Israel stands on her own feet and this is a sentiment echoed by many Zionist in Israel. As the issues with foreign aid is a knife that cuts both ways in that it serves to hinder our relations with those nations that have all the oil and many Israeli's feel it is a chain that prevents them from acting in accordance with their own self interest as they are beholden to the will of the US.
