Way to go Mr. President

And, though it was videotaped for all to see, and everyone in the room heard him reiterate his desire for bi-partisanship, let's see how long it takes for the GOP and their supporters to claim the exact opposite

TigerLily, your post above indicates that you believe the president has acted in good faith in the past, and tried a bipartisan approach.

The evidence does not suggest that to be the case.

Simply because Mr. Obama has said he wants to work with the opposition is no proof that he has or is willing to.

Show me where he has compromised and incorporated Republican Ideas?

So Obama talking to the GOP about being bi-partisan after he spoke 2 days ago with non stop bi-partisan attacks.

yeah, way to go Mr President.. I'm sure the videotaping was for all to see so he can claim to be trying in one breath while not trying in the other.. Ooh god, the man has me dizzy..

And quite a Show Stopper is it not. Up until now it has been Lock the Repubs out of meetings. It is surely for show, but would like to see him follow thru on what he promised oh so many moons ago, about bi-partisianship. Quite a headliner he is.

So does this mean Obama will be returning the GOP's phone calls now? I doubt it.

Scoff all you want. The 'R's never had any intention of working with the President, and this was perfectly evident to me right after the inauguration. The President made an effort very early to open discussions with the GOP, as I recall, he met with them right after the inauguration, and despite compromise after compromise, he got no cooperation, even on initiatives that they claim they support (i.e. tax cuts).

They lost the election, sulked all year and couldn't bring themselves to have the decency to respect the will of the electorate. Instead, they made a active decision to act as roadblocks to every aspect of the President's agenda.

Boehner said as much a mere 9 days after the inauguration:

And, still, the President tried to get them onboard.

Once it was clear that they lied about not being involved in drafting the stimulus bill, it was apparent to me that they had no interest in acting in good faith. They lied all summer about what was included in the health care bill and, I am glad to say, the President finally called them on today, noting that many of the components are things that they, themselves have advocated for many years.
Bottom line, there just is no other explanation for their intransigence than the fact that the President has a 'D' after his name.

Just heard on the news that some of the attendees are really sorry this was taped - can't keep saying that the President hasn't read any of their proposals when his demonstrated knowledge of them lays that lie to rest.

Rhetoric does not equate into action for this man. He can claim whatever false notions he wants to. Unless he acts upon it, it's just rhetoric.
