I find it disgraceful that a national prayer day is paid for with tax payers dollars. It violates the constitution and is just one more example of how the religious right constantly creeps into our government and how our country is run.
It looks like that's some outfit calling itself "The National Day of Prayer Task Force". They werent involved with Truman or around in 1952, they just co-opted the name.

The Chairman is Mrs. Shirley Dobson, who has held the position since 1991. Mrs. Dobson volunteers her time and does not receive a salary. The NDP Task Force consists of a full-time staff and a network of thousands of grassroots volunteers nationwide. Prior to Mrs. Dobson’s involvement, the Task Force was led by Mrs. Vonette Bright, wife of former Campus Crusade for Christ president and founder Bill Bright.

No. Though Mrs. Dobson is married to Focus on the Family board chairman and founder Dr. James Dobson, the NDP Task Force is a separate organization. It is housed in the Focus on the Family headquarters for convenience, so long as Mrs. Dobson remains the Chairman. This is a business enterprise of Dr Dobson, I'd guess something recommended by his tax advisors. Obviously he knows how stupid these poor followers are....
During the 8 year Bush 2 administration, the NDoP was a big deal. Did taxpayer funds pay for Bush's ecumenical soirees??
