I do somewhat agree with the premise without the rich the poor would be in some dire straits. At the same time, why are we so afraid of progressive taxation?
I've seen many of your posts throughout the year, and you're correct in one sense...you're a socialist.
I'm not sure how you can look at history and see that your views and the way you think things should be run have NEVER worked, nor can they. You CONSTANTLY rail against republicans (and many deserve it) but it seems that you really don't know the dangers that your views hold, and the complete ruin that they'll cause this country.
You want free handouts to everyone. You want free healthcare for everyone. Free free free. Take care of EVERYONE.
That's dangerous and that's what led to communism and Nazism. When you make the people dependent on government, you can do WHATEVER you want. It's a slippery slope.

Hasn't socialism been discredited by the collapse of
Communism in the USSR and Eastern Europe? Socialists have been among the harshest critics of authoritarian Communist states. Just because their bureaucratic elites called them “socialist” did not make it so; they also called their regimes “democratic.”
Democratic socialists always opposed the ruling party-states of those societies, just as we oppose the ruling classes of capitalist societies. We applaud the democratic revolutions that have transformed the former Communist bloc. However, the improvement of people’s lives requires real democracy without ethnic rivalries and/or new forms of authoritarianism. Democratic socialists will continue to play a key role in that struggle throughout the world. Moreover, the fall of Communism should not blind us to injustices at home. We cannot allow all radicalism to be dismissed as “Communist.” That suppression of dissent and diversity undermines America’s ability to live up to its promise of equality of opportunity, not to mention the freedoms of speech and assembly.
It has been proven that when you lower taxes on successful people with money that the government collects more money.
Rich successful people invest in things such as jobs and other items that put more money into the system.
Rich successful people invest in what makes them profits. Too many of them think that paying someone to work is an expence not an investment in furter demand. Just take a look at the out sourcing to china etc. The rich are make China rich and the US poor. go figure.

Have you taken a good hard look at the tax rates in 1924 until the start of The Great Depression? Now look at the tax rates from 1981 until the start of The Great Depression 2.0 Think about this one real hard.

You said it. Cutting the tax rate on the rich was one of the stupidest thing ever done. First the roaring twenties. Then the roaring '80's '90's and '00's. 2.5 times the size of the bubble 2.5 times the pain.

How about going after them as I believe every single person 18 or older who can pass a physical should be paying into the system every single week. Even if you make 7.00 phr you need to be paying YOUR FAIR SHARE.
So where are they going to get the money to pay? Poor people don't have any money THEY ARE POOR. Why not give them a raise so that they will be making enough money to be having to pay taxes?

Yip it is very wrong that they don't make enough money to have to pay taxes. This isn't the way it always was. At the peek in 1968 minimum wage was about 50% of the average Hourly wage. Now it is 25% Doubling minimum wage would make those "losers" more able to pay.
The republicans better get their act together otherwise they will not see dominance in Congress and if so, not for long. I'm convinced they are in the pockets of a few just like many democrats. A third party is what I'm looking at. The Democrats bombed out for me many years ago and now the Republicans have blown it, and blown it big time.
Try the Penny pinching people's party. It is curently really small but as the economy goes down hill it should grow.
If you want a look at the closest thing that came to a working socialist system. take a look at the book Great Basin Kingdom. The Mormons (just about the richest church going) had a system that was about the best socialist thing going ever.
Here is one for the masses, the bank bailout helped many wealthy bankers (i.e the rich) has any of that money trickled down to the middle class/poor? So if giving them money has not changed anything (but **** people off) lets try taxing them maybe that would simulate the economy.
The rich already own what they want and need. Do you?
yes i do, I own 2 homes with no mortgages, have no credit card bills, no car loans, contribute to my roth, have money in the bank and at home, have a loving fiance and 3 wonderful children.
I feel very comfortable knowing that when the tax man comes calling, it wont be for my home as it is already paid off.
I will support the democrats, when they and republicans get rid of the IRS and 16th Amendment, the federal reserve, 99% of all federal employees, all unconstitutional gun laws, all entitlements, and 99.999% of federal laws and EO's.
until then both the republicans and democrats can go suck an egg.
