Shut down of DC costs taxpayers $100 million per day in lost productivity (Congress, economy)

That's what the media is reporting. "Lost productivity?" Are you kidding me? What does the government produce? It only spends money; it doesn't produce anything. If a car company shuts down for a day it can calculate the number of cars it hasn't produced that day. That's lost productivity. Those are cars it can't sell and make a profit. I suppose if you call paying the overpaid bureaucrats in DC to stay home during the snow storm lost productivity I consider that a bargain. Every day they stay home is a day Americans are kept safe from these thieves.

I agree with your feelings about the government, but there are other businesses in DC other than government ones.
Starbucks was displayed on tv last night closed, for example..
I dont think the $100M is "government" related because I'd be shocked to hear the number that low..

I absolutely, positively could NOT have said it better.
If Congress tries this stunt again, as the Congress of 1995 did, the outcry from voters could be even stronger. Back then the economy was stronger and we were not at war. I remember one Congressional candidate proposing a bill that Congress does not get paid during government shutdowns. Needless to say it got nowhere. There is also the possibility that bondholders would not get paid, forcing the Fed to print more money to cover them.

Sounds more to me like your problem is the fact that we even have a government. Why not just say that instead of making silly "productivity" arguments?
Funny, don't you people say that federal workers don't do anything at all, so how is anything lost?
Looks like you didn't fully read the OP's post and are just responding to the title of the thread.
