It is a P.C. over-reaction. Mizzou should be ashamed of themselves for playing into the black-victim game of the campus organization. They want to convict these two of felony "cottonball caper" but cannot seem to solve murders and rapes that occur on campus. Way past time for a reality check M.U. !

Cottonballs are about as innocent a form of "freedom of speech" student protests as can be delivered. Soft tyranny anyone? Seriously, no one has a right to not be offended. Get over it and go back to class to learn something other than professional victimhood.

What law did they break though? I was at a major college campus a few weeks ago. There was chalk writing all over the sidewalks and signs and fliers plastered everywhere. I don't think stupid pranks are a new thing.

A hate crime?!!! This crap is gone far too far. It should not even be a crime other than littering. The navy can punish them by demotion or something like that. If blacks put crackers in front of their doors I would laugh and I am white.

This is just more insanity as a result of liberalism.

Looks to me like they are guilty of criminal mischief, but I believe they were charged with felony tampering. Either way, they should be hastily dismissed and dealt with in the courts.

Of course you would, because crumbled crackers carry no pernicious historical connotation that would derive offense. Funny how blacks are consistently told to "get over" slavery and discrimination, when clearly it is the racist whites on college campuses across this country who continue to perpetuate it.

Or maybe I don't like cry babies and whiners. Their joke was tasteless and stupid not criminal. Liberalism is making minds into mush.

It's not that simple. The tension on college campuses isn't because of one group or another group. It's because of everyone. It's hard to imagine anyone actually learning anything in college these days with all of the distractions going on, but that's for another thread.

As for this one... there would be know discussion about this being criminal or not if these people didn't do what they did. It was pointless and stupid. Freedom of expression is wonderful, but with it comes responsibility. Whatever does happen to them, they brought it on themselves.

Felony Tampering? Littering, maybe. But Felony tampering, WTF did they tamper? And then compound a prank/statement into a hate crime? Dumb, really, really dumb!
Sounds to me like Felony Political Correctness run amuck.

Were they making a statement? Would that not fall under Protected Free Speech?

Sounds to me like the authorities are reaching... and if they reach far enough they will land on Unconstitutional ground.

This is interesting. In the Jena 6 case 6 black kids beat another white kid until he was unconcious but they were never charged with any serious crimes let alone a hate crime. Maybe if we can get thousands of people to protest in the streets and Al Sharpton and Jessee Jackson to visit we could just make this whole thing disappear.
Now what would happen if some black students spread crackers in front of the campus' white culture center? Oh-yeah....that's right....I forgot...there isn't a white culture center on campus because that would be racist.

I see much more racism exhibited by black people than by white people.
