If Vermonter's were wise they would secede, start a war with the US, lose and have the US dump trillions in aid on the poor place. We are doing that with Iraq and Afghanistan but Vermont is closer.

After the recent flood they could use a billion of so in road and rail repairs.

I stopped buying socialist Ben and Jerry ice cream many years ago. Big time, big money Obama supporters.

Sounds like my kind of place.

How lax are they on allowing people to cross their borders and set up shop there?

Well, the Swiss are selective. They don't want their small country overrun with the dregs of society who will bleed the country dry supporting 8 kids from 8 different fathers all on welfare programs. On the other hand, if one has $1MM USD ready to deposit in a Swiss bank, no criminal record, and a skill or profession, they will let you in. It's a very nice place, and you are in the heart of Europe.

If you think homosexuals are so bad, maybe this homosexual right here will build a crappy bridge so you can have fun with your car in a river once he gets his civil degree. Two can play the "let's be an a**hole" game.

In regard to the original subject of this thread as well as all other political issues, perhaps the solution is a weakened, very basic federal government, with states having more autonomy and handling their matters as they wish. This would give a chance for various ideas and political ideology to be tried out and for all to see what is successful. It would give people a choice of where to move to for their own utopia. And it would create diversity, allowing each state more of its own culture. Vermont is certainly not the only state that has had the idea of secession, perhaps each state needs to be able to make its own choices and have it's own culture to be more united on the federal level.

Too bad we don't seem to be able to learn from them.

You are aware, of course, that it was precisely this kind of system that failed so badly that we needed the Constitution?
