Of course there is more than one such person out there, as others have demonstrated by their stories, but sweeping statements about society as whole are not logical based on isolated incidents.

I think a lot of society's problems arise from turning the acts of individuals into a "them".

I would disagree on a couple of issues here ... first, there is a lack of decorum pointed out by the OP, though I strongly disagree with her response to it, or any overt attempt to censor simply because censorship might be useful in limiting vulgarity, but could quickly be turned toward censoring unpopular political statements ... then, we'd only be able to say what we are "allowed" to say .. that is dangerous ... including the OP and her right to complain. Censorship is a double edged sword.

Secondly, we have on our hands right now, a huge mess ... from financial criminality to government malfeasance, to the purveyors of the music and film industry and their mental pollution they present as "entertainment", which caters to the lowest common denominator.

But the kid with the tee shirt ... in my view ... demonstrated more respect toward the OP in his "this is all I had to wear" response, than he received from this stranger demanding that he take off the shirt. So I don't think anyone can legitimately say that the kid was a "disrespectful" type of kid. Inappropriate in his selection of attire? Yeah ... a "disrespectful punk" as defined by the OP? ... no .. his response was measured, and respectful, under the circumstances.

It's OK that the OP is offended by such things ... many people are, and that doesn't make the OP wrong. The response was wrong. And aside from just ignoring it ... how about this ... "Hey, young man ...do you realize that shirt you are wearing is extremely offensive .. and inappropriate to display in a public place filled with children?" Kid: "Yeah, other people have said that to me, but it was all I had to wear today" OP: "Tell you what ... how bout you and I go right into that store over there, and I'll buy you a nice shirt if you agree to take that one off, and not wear it around children again?" Kid: "OK, cool ... I'll do that".

In this case, the OP would have been imparting a lesson ... treating the kid with, and demonstrating respect, rather than acting disrespectfully, while demanding respect in return.

Imagine that. Demonstrating rather than demanding.

He was probably just out clubbing, and forgot to take off the shirt, I'm sure its a real chick magnet, if not a topic for casual conversation.

Personally, I think more idiots should walk around with t-shirts, to brandish their idiocy. I'll even go step further and suggest a charity, where we could pool our money, so these types of people could tattoo these things on their foreheads.

We could maybe limit the amount of times these
idiots may partake of the free tattoo service, some
people will always take advantage of our charity.

So, in other words, the hell with anyone elses, as long as you like it, that's all that matters right? No consideration for others, no regard for other peoples sensitivities, as long as it feels good, that's all that matters, huh?
Freedom is not about adhering to the most sensitive member of society. I wouldn't allow my own child to wear a shirt like that and I would look down upon anyone wearing it, but the men who died for this country died to protect our right to wear that shirt.

Who is to decide what is too offensive for the public to see? Where does that line get drawn? Who is to say that they wont make it illegal to wear a shirt that supports the Republican Party? Say we go to war with England and you're a big Manchester United fan, should it become illegal for you to wear that shirt?

The bill of rights was written a long time before you were born, it guaranteed us as Americans the right to express ourselves and speak freely. He's not yelling "fire" in a crowded place and endangering lives, he's simply being a tool and wearing a shirt that gets him the attention he doesn't get from his parents or from the opposite sex.

Haha, that's hilarious! Gotta give him kudos for having the b*lls to wear that. May I ask WHY you would tell a cop about it? You want the kid to get arrested simply for wearing a profane shirt? And people like you continually gripe about big government & nanny-states & here you go trying to get a cop on a kid about a shirt. Talk about hypocritical.

I have one from NYC that say "Do I look like a fuc*ing peoples person?!

Same font and style as the I *heart* New York shirts, and amazingly satirical.

Of course, some people won't see that.

That said, there are shirts I've wanted, but haven't bought because there are people crazy enough to get violent over something like that.

The more liberalism remains unchecked the more we will live in a cesspool.
Aaaah, another righteous post from the usual offender. Tell me dcswhatever, how does that t-shirt have anything to do w/liberalism? Or did you forget about freedom of speech? Or does that only apply to you & the other tightie-rightie cronies?

Great concept in theory. However, being the jaded sort that I am, I wouldn't believe the "this is all I had to wear today" story. Although, even if he was just making that up, it would be interesting to see his reaction if the offer of a new T-shirt was made. Hmm.

To the OP: You went up to a police officer so he would do something about that kid's shirt. I hope I never live in a society/country where a police officer can punish someone because they don't like what they're wearing.

Just thought of another one. I got kicked out of Old Country Buffet for this one: "Merry F*ckin X-mas, B*tch!" Again, there were no kids around, just people who didn't like it. We had just gotten our first plate of food. No refund, just "I have to ask you to leave." Guess they didn't see a problem with it when I was paying, but did right after.

I really enjoy how this thread is turning into "post offensive t-shirt sayings" let's try to keep that goin'

Do I want to be different by wearing these shirts? No, there are so many of them, obviously it's not unique. Do I want to be funny, offensive, and shocking? yeah, I probably do. *shrug*

Also, I'm really enjoying chielgirl's posts.

oh and GuyNTexas. censorship is so tricky and dangerous.
