Well this is yet another story that came out before any facts were gathered. oh and it wasnt true.... hmmm didn't we start the Vietnam war over the Gulf of Tonkin incident... which also didnt happen...
facts are a bad thing to twist....
Idiot was trying to cover up his cigarette smoke in the bathroom, by burning his shoe.
And now, they aren't even pressing charges? Why, because he is a diplomat?
Stupid is stupid. He at least needs to pay a large fine, and maybe spend a few weeks in county lock up.
You would think even in the country he comes from he'd know that it's worse to essentially yell 'fire' in a crowded room than to admit to smoking a cigarette.
And most of us would use it if we were accused of being terrorists at nearly every turn, the way darker-skinned people are. Even when they are from India or Guatemala, they are accused. Let's face it, people smoke in the lavatories all the time, and we don't scramble fighter jets for them. This was all about this guy's skin tone.

1. No, people do not smoke in the lavatories all the time and
2. Based on recent experience, a terrorist is more likely to be darker skinned than a middle aged white guy in a business suit.
We need to stop trying to be politically correct all the time and do some serious profiling .
He was double dumb!
First, he went into the restroom to sneak a smoke. Dumb!
Then, he joked that the smoke smell was because he tried "to light his shoes"! Dumber!
He should be required to pay ALL the costs associated with his idiocy, then he should be declared "personna non grata" and shipped back to Qatar!

I agree with you, right or wrong, when are we going to stop making excuses for these people who do stupid acts. Terrorists are much more likely to be of a darker skin tone, then not, we need to be careful, one dangerous move on an airplane, well you know what can happen. And what if this case had been different, just what if, he was trying to do soemthing other then what he said his intentions were. We need tougher profiling, tougher measures in place, if these terrorists want to cause some serious heartaches on an airplance, i think they are still able to do so.

The arrest of a suburban Pennsylvania woman known by the alias Jihad Jane, who allegedly plotted with Islamic radicals abroad to kill a Swedish cartoonist, has raised fears about homegrown terrorists in the United States who may be difficult to spot.
What about the so-called christian militia who were going to kill police officers? Dark-skinned?
