I am looking forward to the downfall of the fascist state that has been created by the neoconservatives over the last forty years. I am actively working to destroy the Raygun Retrenchment to the 1890's. We need to return to being one country instead of one country for the hyper wealthy and barely sustainable debt for the rest of us. I guess that makes me a really old fashioned conservative.
Schools should teach the bad and the good and how to tell the difference. Anything else is propoganda and mind control.
I think it is quite obvious that many, many posters on this site are government sheep. I've never in my life seen a single place so full of Anti-Americanism and actually support the downfall of this country.
I've been thinking the same thing for quite a while too.

Not everything about American history is puppies, sunshine and rainbows. Why should it be taught that way? I learned about the good AND the bad during my history classes and it made me no less proud to be an American. As an immigrant, I'm very happy to be here.
I am not proud of some of the things in America's past, but that doesn't make me any less proud to be an American.
I think you could teach your child something by going through the poem with her. Explain your feelings about
your love of your country, it's leaders, history, and flag etc. Point out that hypocrisy is a part of life Poetry
is meant to do, exactly what that poem did for you - evoke an emotion; whether the emotion is good or bad.
P.S. I think the poem is not very good. Have your daughter write her own, after you've had the discussion above. I'm sure, hers will be much better. Then, have her bring it to school, and read it in class It would be a wonderful learning experience for you and your daughter, and the teacher
I didn't think the poem was very good either. I think this is a good idea (writing her own poem) regardless of whether she is pro or con. Her opinion matters, and if the teachers don't like it then they shouldn't be teaching. You would be surprised at how intelligent 10 year olds are, and there is no reason they shouldn't be thinking critical thought.
It's way more than that. It is the progressive agenda to ruin America through the youth. Once the pride in the Nation is wiped out, they can collapse it and try to build their socialist world governed utopia which will ultimatley lead to communism or some sort of facism where people will be getting murdered by the govt.
I think there are some excellent pharmaceuticals out there that may help with this affliction.

It's understood that customs of 300 years ago are not what they are today. That would be an important concept that a good teacher would share with students as well.
The point is, that teachers need to allow kids to think and become discerning individuals. They can't do that if they aren't given factual and pertinent information! The only propaganda, as I see it, is the half-truths and rosy picture you seem to be advocating as part of the American history curriculum.

The truth and reality has many different facets. One could view Van Gogh as a genius artist, or a schizophrenic with a sour temperment who rarely bathed. Hitler was a great speaker, but had a little problem with genocide. Which view do you prefer?
When evaluting the accomplishments and totality of an individual's life, one should probably emphasize those componants which defined the individual and had the most impact on subsequent generations. To emphasize the negative aspects of one's life at the expense of great accomplishments is a falsely presented propaganda ploy veiled under the guise of "truth" and being "objective". Of course, the fact that we essentially owe our nation to Jefferson was completely lost to this "teacher" (it is a stretch to call someone who did this a "teacher", rather than the propagandist that they are), who is more interested in presenting a biased political agenda for thier own selfish purpose. That is not teaching.
