Opinions Sought RE: Gated Communities

I personally like HOA. They have rules, and you need to read them carefully before you decide to live there. If you agree to them, it is your responsibility to follow the rules and be willing to face the consequences for breaking them. IMO, that is the problem with this world now. People want every rule bent for them, but get mad when they are bent for others. Just follow the law of the neighborhood and you will be fine.

As for meeting people- that has alot to do with your nature. We have met alot of people in our neighborhood because we are always outside with the kids. If someone comes out we acknowledge them and initiate a conversation. Most of the time the people will stop and we get to know them.

It's not easy meeting people. If you're willing to start a conversation, most people will continue it!!

This is one of the things people need to read BEFORE buying into a gated HOA community before it's too late. The poster writes that they have motorcycles and bought in a community that doesn't allow them. Maybe thats the reason the majority of people bought in there, they didn't want to hear motorcycle noise. The poster likes to do her gardening but the rules maybe are different than what she wants to plant and where to plant. If you do not want to follow the rules of a community, don't buy into it. I'm happy that the community that I bought in has no motorcycles, no pickups, no clothes hanging on the back decks, pool hours from 8am to 9pm. I don't want to hear people swimming at 1am.
