Would you really want Portland to end up like Seattle? Even worse traffic, higher COL, widening income gap, more gentrification? The city's livability would suffer and people would become more stressed and rude. Smart growth policies and business regulation exist for a reason.

I would never want to see Portland end up like Seattle because it would make no sense having two identical cities in the Northwest. The way I see Portland and Seattle is about the same way I see Boston and New York City, or Philly and New York City.

Seattle is the big metropolis in the Northwest and that is perfect, Portland is more Main St focused more about being a regionalist city, basically a city that is a produce of its local and regional surroundings.

I would like to see Seattle better connected, like high speed rail between the cities to make it a real option to commute between the two regions even easier.

Wouldn't that be great? I just don't think the public has the stomach for a big, expensive infrastructure project though, regardless of how good it would be for the region's economic health.
