what you think of the proposed SMART tower going up on a rating 1-10?

some reason i don't really like the idea maybe its just the position i think they should build it somewhere else so it can actually allow you to view the skyline rather than above the skyline

I like the way it looks, I just think it needs to be shorter so its not so "towering" over the skyline.

650 ft? In Portland? That's over 100 ft taller than the next tallest building, the Wells Fargo Center. Last time I checked Portland didn't need to have "compensation" issues...

If they put a hundred more of those red flashers on top it would look like a great big vase with flowers in it. That might be interesting....

Can I say "Phallic Symbol", or "Middle Finger Gesture" skyline?

I lived in a community back in the 1970's where the Firefighters and the Public Safety head honcho objected a proposed tall building's building-permit by claiming insufficient firefighting equipment and rescue equipment for the proposed new building. (IIRC, 10 stories taller than current tallest) However, if backers of new building would pay the tab for the new firefighting and rescue equipment in exchange for the building permit..... The project quickly died.

Phil your comment reminds me of when I lived in the Bay Area 36 years ago and the Admin Bldg. at Cal State Hayward (now Cal State East Bay) was called the Phallic Symbol of the East Bay for precisely the same reason. You could see it from miles away.

Maybe this proposed structure could be smaller... Don't know. Don't really like it. Too tall, too futuristic.

I have been to Portland several times and I love its stunning skyline. I have nothing against building more taller skyscrapers to make it look more urban. I love the futuristic design but it's too gigantic for Portland. In my honest opinion, it would be not so bad if the gigantic skyscraper is designed differently with top of the structure looking like a gigantic rose with neon lights to symbolize Portland. It could become a landmark for Portland like Space Needle of Seattle and the Gateway Arch of St. Louis.

Let me know if the city approves the construction of this project unless it's already in progress. Is it for residential, business, or both?

well its none of those its an observatory, restaurant, and it provides parking spaces. it also has 16 or so windmills which would power the whole waterfront park.they say it will provide 1.5 dollars of income towards Portland so because of that i think it will likely be approved. Portland approves anything that's environmentally friendly :P
