Having a close encounter with a narcissist can be a life changing event- if this happens over a period of time lasting from months to years. This can be in a personal or work relationship. These men and women are simply disliked universally. Narcissists have some times been called 'Souls with No Footprints'. The understanding of all personality disorders in the 3 cluster groups has grown from one DSM to the next. The Cluster 'B' the 'Dramatic group' is perhaps the most fascinating today - this includesNarcissism, but also Histrionic, Anti Social and Borderline personality disorders. The latter has seen much research as well, and new types of therapy that have shown to be promising. NPD remains tough to mitigate however. Narcissism in the extreme can cause those involved with the narcissist the 'victim' to suffer life long scars and Post Traumatic Stress. While 'ordinary narcissism' is on the rise in this culture- those clinically diagnosed with strong narcissistic traits or the actual personality disorder has not really increased all that much.
