Well, Im a contract worker for the original compnay who invented it, and have tons of it here. When they decide to scrap some, we roll it out and run over it with the forklifts. The bigger bubbles do better than the small ones!
I've always loved to pop bubble wrap. For some reason, it is so satisfying. Occasionally I've bought a whole roll just to pop. But I have to wait until DH is out of range since it drives him crazy. I guess it would be annoying to the person listening and not participating.
I was reading an article on ASRM and it made me think of bubble-popping. But it doesn't seem like the same thing.
This article explains it, suggesting it alleviates fidgeting. But I'm not a fidgeter. I just like to pop!
ASMR is about getting tingles and feeling completely relaxed when you hear a certain type of sound. I don't get ASMR tingles from sounds. Some sounds can put me out, quick - like hearing a child whisper reading...it just knocks me out. Even just sitting in a university library, where people are studying, man...I was never able to study in a library because it would always make me fall asleep, but no tingles.
For me, it's like when you go to get your hair cut, the hair dresser washes your hair first...I get massive tingles from that, could sit there all day and let them run their hands through my hair, and I would sleep the best I've ever slept.
Popping bubbles is just fun. It's not simply the noise, it's the action, and that has nothing to do with ASMR. I rarely get to pop them, but when I do...I pop every last one. No idea why I find it fun.

That is awfully wasteful unless you can recycle it or use it in other ways. But, yes, I do enjoy popping the ones that have one inch diameter bubbles that I get with packages, . Then, it is recycled to a company that uses it to make other items.
I absolutely hate popping the big ones they use for shipping now - if you don't pop them they take up your entire trash. I need to find a faster way to do it because it's just plain aggravating!
But no, I never liked it, even the smaller ones - which I rarely see any more.
Good sharp scissors.
