James F. & Sarah Jane Kaserman's book, FLORIDA PIRATES: From the Southern Gulf Coast to the Keys and Beyond, ISBN 978.1.60949.419.3, has been released.. Individuals can order the book directly from The History Press at their web site, http://www.historypress.net The selling price is $ 16.99. After you get to the History Press web site, click on Florida Pirates for complete info on the book, etc. They have it on Amazon.com cheaper.

Buckingham Army Air Field - http://www.alibris.com/Buckingham-Ar...*listing*title

Story of Ft Myers - http://www.amazon.com/Story-Fort-Mye.../dp/0872082261

Peace River Boundary and Historic Charlotte County - http://www.edison.edu/news/detail.php?id=1020

If you do a Google search there are other books about Southwest Florida that come up too.

If you enjoy fiction, Randy Wayne White's Doc Ford series is entertaining and takes place largely in SWFL, centered around Sanibel. Carl Hiaasen also writes largely Florida based fiction, but that is more based on SEFL.

Here is a link to a Lee County library list of books on Gasparilla/Boca Grande/Charlotte Harbor. They have similar lists for Southwest Florida fiction in general and other specific locations (Sanibel etc.):

https://libpac.leegov.com/polaris/se...&query=&page=0

If the link doesn't work (it seems to be set up as a search result link), try Pages - default and then click the "Books set on Gasparilla" link.

Check with your local library, but my understanding is that the Southwest Florida area libraries have a reciprocity agreement where you can get a sticker put on your library card each year that gives you borrowing rights at the other county libraries. I live in south Lee county, so I've only used this to check out books in Naples (Collier county), but my understanding is Charlotte county is (or at least has been) part of this too. (If you do this, ask if it's possible to reserve books to be picked up at the Lee county branch nearest you. In fact, wouldn't hurt to ask if they have any kind of transport between counties, but I've never looked into that. I do know that as a Lee county cardholder, I can have books delivered to my local branch; don't need to drive to the branch that has the book--which is nice because Lee county is pretty spread out; there are library branches that are an hour away from me.)

I started a thread similar to yours a while back but that was general to Florida and asked for recommendations of books, movies, and tv series with a Florida theme. A lot of people responded; you might enjoy looking through their recommendations (and possibly adding there, as well as here, if you find any you want to recommend):

Happy reading!

There's a book called "From Calusas to Condominiums" by Ralph Hunter. The book is about the early settlers in SW FL. My family, Don & Roxanne Moore is mentioned several times in the book, page 123, 124, 161 & 190.
