I own a home in PC that has a rather large gravel driveway which is an absolute pain. First of all. its the only one in the neighborhood which is unpaved and second, keeping the weeds out is a never ending problem. Everyone seems to have concrete which I have gotten estimates on which were hair raising. 10K+ Ive noticed parking lots and commercial areas have asphalt, is this something that I should/could consider? I cant find anything on CC website regarding the building code regarding driveway composition. I have seen stamped asphalt which, in my opinion, is much more attractive that stamped concrete and much cheaper than pavers. Any feedback is appreciated...

The heat coming off asphalt in the florida sun would steer me away from getting it. But it is a lot cheaper than concrete.

Is it cheaper though ?

I have no idea what asphalt costs (would not use it) but concrete is $3.50 a sq ft

asphalt must need a base so cant see it being MUCH cheaper than that ??

Asphalt needs maint (resealing) every year or two as well, so there's future costs involved. Concrete is probably your cheapest long-term option. Pavers are gorgeous, but $$$$

Try Bradley A Ray Concrete (941) 743-9423. We have had cement walk and driveway done by them and they are very reasonable and did a great job. Would recommend them any day.

Your least expensive, long term option is concrete. Here in Florida I wouldn’t consider asphalt because it’s dirty, oily, needs annual sealer applied, and it smells.

There is a somewhat cheaper option, but it is not a long term solution. Put down a double layer of professional grade landscape fabric and cover it with 3-4” of rock, then have it tamped down. It will look decent for a few years but eventually the weeds will work their way through the fabric, so you’re back to square one.

Concrete is the way to go

My driveway is 1600 sf and have not gotten an estimate under 10k, if you have a recommendation for someone who charges 3.50 a sf, please share.

Asphalt millings (recycled from road construction projects) is an environmentally friendly and affordable road surface. It's used all over the state on large driveways over gravel, especially on farms and acreage properties.
