I love Halloween, it's my favorite holiday.
I will celebrate it Saturday, Sunday, or both.
There seems to be confusion among my neighbors about what day to expect trick or treaters.
Most events I see are for Saturday night and I've heard that it's custom around here to celebrate Halloween on Saturday if Halloween falls on Sunday.
So....do I expect trick or treaters on Saturday? Sunday? both?
Halloween falls on a Sunday, so expect them on Sunday night.
If they are worried about kids coming the day before (never had or heard of it happening), just tell them to be sure not to have outside lights on. I highly doubt anyone would show up a day early.
I have lived in NC my whole life, and no one I know celebrates Halloween except on 10/31. Just b/c it falls on a Sunday doesn't change the day of Halloween. What if Halloween falls on a Tuesday? Do you bump it back to Saturday too? No! Tell whoever said its on a Saturday they need to put the crack pipe down.
I think some towns actually 'announce' what night they'll celebrate (or even some neighborhoods) - I seem to recall that some do trick-or-treat on Saturday night instead of Sunday. Personally, if it's not the 31st, it's not Halloween to me! But if someone comes to my door Saturday, I'll probably try and be ready.
In areas of Pennsylvania Trick or Treating night is determined by each town. Personally I consider Halloween on 10/31 no mattter what. I have not seen Halloween moved in any other areas I have lived in except PA. Although as a child I wouldn't mind Halloween being moved since you could double or triple up on the trick or treating by going to different towns.
This question seems to pop up annually. My guess is that the confusion is being introduced by people who have recently relocated to the area, and the place they moved from tended to shift thrick-or-treating when Halloween fell on a Sunday. I've only been in NC about a dozen years, so I don't know how many Sunday Halloween's I've experienced, but I've never heard of any local town moving the day for trick-or-treating.
I'd been wondering about this as well. I've lived in N.C. fo rabout 17 years, but for some reason i can't remember what has usually happened but for some reason I think some towns shift it from Sunday.
Now people are ceding control of Halloween to government control, when will it end?! Sheesh
