I was wondering if anyone had any comments about Cedar Ridge HS vs. Orange HS in Orange County. Do you think that there is a big difference in the schools? It seems to me that the houses and lots in Cedar Ridge district are more expensive than those in Orange district. Do you think this is because of the schools? Or because of the proximity to Chapel Hill? Or something else?

TIA

You probably already know this, but Cedar Ridge is a brand new school with all the bells and whistles while Orange High is > 40 years old and showing its age. The physical plant of Orange High needs a lot of work....

Academically, the schools are not that different. My kids are in elementary school now but we are in the Orange High district. I have heard mostly good things about Orange High though. It does have a more rural focus for kids that want that like 4H and FFA, but there are also adequate AP courses for kids on the academic track.

One very interesting program at Cedar Ridge is the IB program, International Baccalaureate.

I have checked with the school though and students who are interested in this program can transfer in from Orange High.

In terms of housing, while you can find larger lots in the Cedar Ridge district, it is alot more rural, spread out. We also found most of the homes to be on septic and well water. Been there done that don't want it again.

We have town water and sewer which is expensive as outside city limits residents but at least fewer headaches. We also found the nicer neighborhoods including Churton Grove to be on the "Orange" side of town.

Hope this helps
